^^^No matter what you will not feel comfortable installing the hood pins...I did my own and to be honest it probably was not a perfect job...I just stopped looking at it and it kinda goes away...kinda....LOL....
No seriously you HAVE to put the hood pins in, especially if you are going to track the car AT ALL.....if you dont the lighter hood will "lift" at speeds over ~65mph...then on the highway you will have people flagging you down (like they did to me) telling me my hood was unlatched |

It is very common on almost ANY CF hood where there is not seal between the leading edge of the hood and the front bumper.....there is a reason race cars use them (beyond any weight savings gains) and it is because of this lift and the possibility of the hood flying open...and it does not take that much "time" or "money" to install these....if the amount it takes to get it installed really bothers someone that much then I wonder why they would buy any aftermarket items for the 1er...or any car for that matter.

Whatever brand of CF hood you buy, get the pins and just have a body shop install them if you want. They're cheap compared to the cost of the hood, and you'll want that peace of mind going down the highway.
Or you can save a few bucks and risk having a *very* bad high speed experience. Your choice. |

I really like this hood. Still many months from considering one, but I really like it.
So, it looks like the vent is right over where a DCI would be? Anyone run one of these vents open with a DCI? Cooling would be nice, but I'm thinking rain not so much. |

Seemed too busy in the front. I might put them back on once I get the Gloss Perf Grill. Your thoughts? Not quite sure how I feel about any sort of moisture going into the intake. I do not have a DCI so I really cannot comment but I can't imagine getting water in the intake is a good thing. Your thoughts? |

First off, modding is never cheap... so budget accordingly. I have a paint shop I go to so I really didn't have to be concerned with that aspect. As far as painting cost, hood, pins should be $500-$600 with damn near perfect color match...
Painting should take 1-2 weeks depending in the weather because it takes time to dry and to make sure the shop does it right. I usually set aside a month because I never want to hurry the shop. |

Hmm, well I just wouldnt know where to find a respectable paint shop i guess. So you're saying roughly $500-600 to paintmatch the hood and pins? Does that price include the pin installation?

I really like the hood. Especially painted. If and when I go that route, I'll leave my pins black, but that is more my theme anyway. I like that you have been color matching everything. Makes it all look so OEM.

They painted them before installation. He had the hood painted a while ago.

HGR, I actually was going to install the regular black hood pins but I figure what the hell, i painted everything else white, may as well stick with my current theme. Dammit, I forgot the screws! but that shouldn't be too hard. The hood pins comes black or white. The white is more of a matte finish and so I had my shop paint the pins since they had extra paint left over from the hood. I would agree that leaving it black gives more of a contrast. I was just worry about installing them in the right direction, as seeing some other installs...
