Dropped something in engine bay

I dropped a small socket during my intake install. I heard it bounce all the way down and hit the plastic bottom cover. What do I need to do to retrieve it?

Take off the underlining from inside, or hit the underlining towards a hole you can pop the bit through if you can see one.

Or, if you know the relative location of the bit, take a magnet underneath and move the bit toward a hole.

Ive droped like 4 or 5 things in my engine bay when i was switching out an air filter. I had gloves on, and didn't learn my lesson till the 5th time, but this was on saturday, and ive been driving my car ever since then, and i haven't had any problems since then. (the pieces i dropped were little screw heads, nothing big)

If you've got the inlet tract open and you drop something you want to be absolutely, positively 100% certain you can account for it before you seal it back up.

Otherwise it could be the most expensive mistake you ever make with this car. I believe it's been done before.

I'm sort of a newbie for engine terms, can you specify what you mean by inlet tract?

I believe he refering to the holes you connect the filters to. If you dropped something in there and you dont get it back out, your are screwed, no pun intented.

Man, I had dropped a nut in there once, I took my hand down there and used a hangar to grab it! LOL it was such a bitch, luckily, my arms aren't too beefy, but I did get a good amount of cuts
