I've owned both and currently own a E92 328I X-drive AT.

The 135i is much faster and more nimble. I run a staggered 19" setup on my 328. IMO it handles much better than the 135i did. Even with x-drive there is much less understeer. The handling is more neutral at the limit, where as the 135i would always push. While the 135i is not ugly the E92 is a sexy car.

There are times where I miss the grunt of the N54 but the N52 is no slouch. It revs freely to redline where the N54 would run out of steem just shy of 6k. The 135i has a better exhaust note whereas the N52 makes better noises under the hood.

In a nutshell while I do miss the power of the 135i I don't ever regret trading it in for a 3 series. My only regret is that I didn't get the E92 with N54 (that will change in the spring when I trade it in). My suggestion would be to buy a 335i.

All opinions aside you really can't go wrong with either.

I occasionally get given a 328i (325i) as a loan car and I find it so boring and dull to drive. I'm always ecstatic to get my 135i back if I get this car. I understand there is a place for it in the BMW line-up, it's a good all-rounder, ticks off most boxes, but it's just not appealing to me and I'm left wanting more, especially in the performance department.

What I don't understand is that 'some' people look down on the 1 series and yet of all cars, they own a 3 series! My last car was an E46 3 series which I thoroughly enjoyed and until the 1 series came along, it was the entry level BMW. I don't see a world of difference between the 1 and 3 and yet 'some' people consider the 1 an inferior car. I do think stock for stock the 3 series is subjectively nicer inside and out, but as I said, there's not much in it and it wouldn't call for bragging rights. I considered purchasing the new E89 Z4 for a little while and both the exterior and interior are on another level to the 1 series though.

As Bimmer-Bob said in one of the earlier posts of this thread: "I'm willing to bet your loaners were slush-boxes w/o sport package. Apples & oranges... "

I'm sure the 328i has more room for your high heels missy.
