ipod 5th generation integration not shuffling?

I picked up an ipod 5th gen, just so I could leave it in the 135i.

I do not have iDrive, just the ipod integration.

When I plug in my ipod with the Y cable, it lets me play songs alphabetically, even though I set the ipod to shuffle.

I try to click artist, list, genre, etc, but it just blinks when I click it, and keeps playing it as is.

Is there somewhere I can adjust the settings or something?
