Took the Mercedes Benz A45 AMG press car down McCarrs Creek today....very cool little car!

The exhaust in Sport and Manual mode is unreal - pops and crackles like a 1M with an Akrapovic exhaust.

Did understeer a fair bit as expected, although the grip was pretty good. Merc have really come a LONG way in terms of handling. Was very comfortable given the sports suspension et al

The torque is great - bit of lag here and there, runs out of puff up top end as expected as well, but all in all, a great piece of machinery.....only gripe is the price really...will wait for the CLA 45

They are like $10-12k over an A45, getting up there and no discounting. I was also told "good luck getting one next year".

Seen a couple of A45's on the road and they are not too exciting, would nearly say the A250 sport looks more appealing. No doubt 1M's get more head turns.

Yes, the A250 in grey is a classy looking hatch, A45 not so.

Is that a function of the A45's "FWD until slip is detected" 100:0 front/rear AWD system? I'm not sure why they went with the Rav4 approach rather than BMW's xDrive and Audi quattro's default 40:60 front/rear split.

Spot on mate. Slip was definitely detected on that drive.

Took one of the M3s out for a drive the other night...difference in a PROPER driver's car and an AMG is significant

Exactly my gripe with all Haldex based cars... i reckon your either proper 4wd, or a rear biased 4wd like xdrive... or else you might as well just be front wheel drive with a diff.

Haldex sucks, no matter how fast the unit is capable of shifting the power, they always feel like a front wheel drive car.

This "Haldex" thing was what put me off an r32 a number of years back. Just didnt like the fact that you only get the rear to kick in when slip is detected. They say it's fast and you won't notice it, but I think it affects the driving dynamics. I'm still scratching my head why MB would put Haldex in their top lineup.

Gee what do you guys want' hey its only $85k
Yes it is a front wheel drive based car as is a WRX,EV0 and golf R.
The engine is set across the front of the engine bay i.e. north / south that's just how it is, they made it that way.

If you want the real deal torque based 4x4 system with 50/50 weight split and 350kw atw go get a GTR even an old shitter R32 will tear a hole in your pants, and an R35 will just make you sick with envy but @ $190,000

FWIW give me an A45 and a 1M and a check for $10,000 for each car.
I have no doubt that the AMG would be the quicker car around Wakefield or Easton creek

The IM is my choice for what it is, the last N54 powered car from BMW and its an M car, there will always be space in my shed for one, one day

Argh everytime someone talks about an R32 I get excited (R32 skyline). However, it also had a "Haldex" 4wd system called ATTESSA but reversed.

RWD all the time until it detects slip/crazy G forces and it applies up to 50% torque to the front.

Ah guess I shoulda been more clear - big difference between vw r32 and an r32

And I would prefer the ATTESSA system anyday! lol

hehe nah, it's more modern so I think it can take over the new name. I just always remember my old car whenever I hear R32.

I went over a mates house a fair few years ago and Bathurst 12 or 24hr was on and he yells out "holy crap, an R32 is kicking everyone butt". My ears pricked up and I dashed straight for the TV to try and find it. He pointed it out and much to my surprise it wasn't a Skyline, it was just a Golf
