Check Oil w/out iDrive?
How do you do it?
N54 = no dipstick, right? So how do you check the 1M's oil, if your 1M doesn't have iDrive? I check oil via iDrive in our '06 e60. |

it should be in the manual. The turn signal lever has a knob that goes up and down.
You can also program a couple things there too, ie unlock both doors instead of driver side only, welcome light, turn signal etc. |

Red135: If I had my 1M already (Sept build), I'd also have my manual.
Thanks guys - nice to know I can still access a bunch of the functions through the stalk. |

BMW NA has thier manuals online. They also have instructional videos too. I don't see the 1M manual... but you can look over the 135i manual until your car arrives. http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/content/owner/dgh.aspx To check the oil level you scroll thru the board computer for the oil level. The engine has to fully warmed up in order to see what the level is. It will then show you the oil level via a bar graph in the center warning display of the speedo area. Dackel |

Heh. Got a good chuckle out of this, but seriously... It's just, like, a question, man... </Big Lebowski>

I understand the point of the question. We're all learning about our cars, and some of us (myself included) are just so happy to be getting the car, that we're trying to figure out little details before we actually get the car. I'm not sure if this is the case with Mahlzeit or not, but there's no reason to flame. We're all adults (hopefully). |

If your car doesn't have iDrive then maybe you lucked out on the ugly washer on the bumper, a cleaner look.
Don't worry, I thought the same until I got mine and you can access plenty of info on the dash, look at it this way, you get a sleek glove box instead of that ugly screen protruding from the dash which this car needed very much. There is basically no center glove box for your crap, go figure. Simple has its' advantages. The wait is the killer, I know but trust me, worth it completely, what a beast! |

checking the oil level ie: the electronic dip stick!
Mahlzeit - here is how you can check the oil level without iDrive...
Start the engine... Use the scroll thru the BC menu until you get to the oil level function... Then press the button on the end of the turn signal stalk. IF the engine is not fully warmed up... you will see this with a clock counting down... IF the engine is fully warmed up... you will see the oil level... |

I have set the odo to kms and the ambient temps to celcius. And... your next question will be about my M3 digital speedo: "V = kph". Yea... I had that coded mod done. I love it! The M3 speedo reads true vehicle speed as verified by my TomTom navi. And the readout works even when the speedo needle has been pegged durring a V-Max top speed run - which is every other day for me! lol Dackel |
