Calling all vendors...Build us an intake under $300!

With the exception of the BMS intake, all of the intakes for the 135i are over $300 (or even $400). I have a hard time justifying a $300-400 product when all it consists of is a filter and some tubing. I understand that most of the costs come from R&D, but still. And the BMS intake is hard to swallow even with its relatively cheap price since it really is just a filter with adapters.

What I'm asking for is a quality, good looking intake system for the 135i. It might sound like I'm asking to have my cake and eat it too, but I know it can be done. I have a great looking intake on my E46 right now that was well under $300. It fits well and doesn't look cheap. So there...now how about some support!

Or Injen can sell it for $300 i'm all over it. Personally, I think that's the best looking intake of all.

I honestly don't care about the horsepower gains. All the intakes are going to produce similar numbers. I want a quality, good looking intake as stated in my original post.

Ha, I love the title. We need one like this for an inexpensive axelback exhaust that's under $400-$500. Maybe GAS will come through for us. They seem to be the only ones now on this site that are doing anything innovating and inexpensive. Look at the group buys that they've been doing. Here's hoping...

i don't know what the issue is with the BMS dual intakes...I mean, for just over a hundred bucks, you are getting a good quality and very efficient setup.

I was thinking of doing my own here in Australia to save on the high freight costs. What filter did you end up using? Were they K&N or S&B etc and if so, which part number.

Thanks

There is high quality, low price, and performance.

Pick any two.
You can't have all 3 unfortunately.

It's like a woman. You can have down-to-earth, really intelligent, or drop-dead gorgeous. You only get 2 out of 3.

How about the OEM air box with a drop in K&N panel. I believe it meets all your requirements

low price is subjective based on level of income. so for some it is possible to have all three.

Except the "good-looking" aspect; seeing as how it is hidden under a plastic panel.

Ya ya ya...just like fast, reliable, and cheap. You can only pick two. I'm just saying...I bought a K&N 57-Series intake for my E46 for under $250 and it came with a heat shield, a whole new intake tube, filter, and it fit perfectly. It looks and sounds great too. I don't see what's so hard here. Maybe it's an economies of scale sort of thing for K&N versus smaller companies like Riss and Injen. Oh well, I guess I'll continue to wait...
