Help with exhaust

So, I am on the mod-bargains website and I'm planning on getting a BMW performace exhaust as well as the depo xenon headlights (I know it doesn't go here sorry; question with that in a second). However, I'm questioning if it's really worth the 800ish$, I'm also wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a different exhaust that is a little bit cheaper that would be appreciated. Going back to the headlights, how hard are they to install?

A universal muffler.

Without a doubt, its a great sounding exhaust that is all OE BMW, BUT at this point where I do not care about warranty since I no longer have it I cannot honestly say it is worth it...

I am in the same boat as you, but I am more and more looking to get a custom exhaust job done at a nearby shop since it costs a fraction and sounds just as good.

Yes! Don't think, do it! It's not uber loud, but it has SO much character! And the gurgles + pops will make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

You need to pull the bumper.

do you get nice shift noises with the pe and a steptronic transmission? I love when I can get that noise with the stock exhaust and would love it to be more pronounced.

I think I'm sold on the BPE, either that or the Berk Technologies axleback for 135i and modify that a bit. Probably BPE haha. I'm completely new to working with cars, do you think it is a difficult job?

There are DIYs, I made one for the E90 N52 before I had a 135i. It's straight forward: measure, cut off old exhaust with a saws all (titanium coated blades, it's hardened steel pipe, anything less will just scratch it) use exhaust hanger pliers (specialty tool, easy to find) to remove the exhaust, install new exhaust, clamp into place.

It's a great exhaust - and was my favorite part about my E90 when I had it with the PE. I'm picking up a PE this spring for me 1er!

If you have access to a lift it will be 100x easier, otherwise you need a good high lift jack and 4x jack stands. Muffler shops can also do it for a couple hundred usually.

DIY I did for E9x. There's probably one for the E8x, I haven't looked. Procedure will be identical but the cats are likely further back. They are for the N54 E8x at least. (Just forward of the rear axle)

Much more so, yes. I had an N52 auto E90 with it, with paddle shift retrofitted... The paddles were awesome for up/down shifting and the PE made the daily commute so much more fun. You hear the engine much more so to speak.

Have you heard the 135i M Sport stock exhaust? If so it's similar to that, only louder and more throaty. One thing I loved doing was a hard acceleration, then on deceleration blipping the throttle a couple times, sounded awesome with the autobox. At the end of the second pull in the second vid below you can hear the deceleration and then down shift. (1:44 - 1:50)

Example:

This video doesn't do the PE justice but gives an idea...

BMW PE is a no-brainer. Had mine done recently and it's worth it! I also have the BMW Performance Intake, they compliment each other well.

I also had the Depos for a bit. Mine leaked and need to be resealed. I'll sell them to you cheap if you want them OP. I didn't find them worth the hassle and you really do have to pull the bumper

Shouldn't be, I had none on my N52, but haven't gotten it for my N54 yet so I can't comment from experience but I haven't read that it has any
