Bmw 1m short throw shift kits

Hey guys so i was looking to purchase a short throw shift kit for my 1m.

I just saw that uuc has a kit that fits 2011+ 135i as well as the 1m and that kit looks great! .

Would the performance short throw shift kit from the 08 135i fit as well?

If so i believe i will purchase the performance one instead of the uuc just because it is a bmw part. Thanks

The carrier (shifter arm) for the BMW performance assembly must be replaced. I'm not sure if the 1M has the same part. The ssk was my first mod tho, and it is awesome.

Here is your break down:
Item #1 is the carrier. ( Shifting arm, reinforced 25117590609) The 08' unit is a different part number. ( SHIFTING ARM 25117524720) If you could find the part number for the performance piece, maybe we could tell if it works. Maybe the M has the performance piece already.

Parts here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...28&hg=25&fg=05

My tablet can't copy all the pics so hope this helps.

BMW performance. I don't think the other companies require you to change out the carrier.

The new carrier is part of the ssk. We need to know what difference the 1m carrier has from the 135i's. Since they are different part numbers (the stock pieces) I'm not confident in saying it would fit. We need to find the part number for the performance carrier just to make sure.

If you go here: http://www.shopbmwusa.com/ProductLis...=139&perf=true

The ssk option disapears when you select 2011 or newer. I believe that is due to the n55 not being compatible. There isn't even an option for the 1m. It could still work tho. I would email dan@unitedbmw and ask him.

Lol nope. I always find myself in the 1m forum since the new post button just shows all new posts. Sometime I don't even realize I'm here hahaha. Down to figure it out tho.

I would get the UUC kit and not give it a second thought. I've used lots and lots of different SSKs over the years and UUC has always been among the very best. Even if BMW offered one, I'd choose theirs over BMW ssk.

For a 1M or a N55 135i, you can NOT use the BMW Performance SSK. The 2011 135i's(N55) and the 1M share the same 6MT trans which is different from earlier N54 cars.

The BMW Performance SSK only works on N54's. I have one on my car and LOVE it. It is a very nice mod.

BMW 135i SSK throws 6MT

N54 = 80mm throws
N54 w/Perf SSK = 55mm throws
N55 = 70mm throws

Like RobertM says... UUC makes some very good (short shift)shifters. IF they have a SSK for the 1M... its safe to say its probably pretty high qaulity.

I have always wondered IF you could just use the shorter shift lever/arm (#8 in the RealOEM photo above) on a 1M or N55. I bet that would give you 80% of theshort shift feel of the Perf SSK.

Out of curiosity how much does the shift effort increase with your SSK? The 1M's throws are long-ish but I like the hot-knife-through-butter feel.

When you make the throws shorter(no mater who's SSK you use...) you also will increase the force(s) needed to move the shift lever. I'd say with the Perf SSK the effort goes up some 30% or so. 1st/2nd slots are more notchy... but the rest is pure sex. very short and crisp throws. I really enjoy the 3rd/4th gates with the Perf SSK now.

I rememberd with my stock shifter... when I would change from 2nd to 3rd... it would feel like my hand would almost hit the console under the radio area. With the Perf SSK... the lever hardly moves. It has been said that the Perf SSK is one of the best mods you can do to a 135i. I agree 100% with that.

Here is a very good FAQ on how BMW short shifters work and how to install them. Written by Ron Stygar... checkout Ron's little video at the top left corner of the page to see how much shorter a SSK is vs stock.

Have a look at Rogue Engineering, they have a very nice 135i SSK. The 1M kit should be right behind it.

My E36 M3 has a UUC short shifter that is a marked improvement over the stock setup. But I wouldn't want to change a thing about the way the 1M shifts. It seems perfectly balanced - an effortless fairly short throw.

I agree with you on that. I always wanted an SSK and I think the 1M would be a great car to take advantage of that but I do like how effortless 1st-2nd is around town etc. with the stock setup.

Videos of an SSK on the M would be great!

FWIW, I put a short shifter in my '99 M Coupe. I have no such plans for my 1M. It's pretty sweet as is!

We used the prototype 1M Rogue SSK on a build. The shifts were very short and smooth. Right when it comes out we will have a thread up.
