///Gravity: Rumors are true - G.A.S 135i Exhaust System!

Hey everyone!

I'm know a lot of you have been been asking if it was true that we were releasing an exhaust system for the 135i and the truth is, YES we most certainly are!

I don't want to spill the beans 100% just yet, but I'll give everyone at least a teaser of what is to come pretty shortly.

When we set out to create this system, we wanted a few things that we think most of the 1 Series exhausts currently out lack. Perfect fitment, an ACTUAL muffler (not just pipes with a tip), fair pricing, dyno proven results, great sound, and a system that allows the end user to customize his exhaust system as he wishes.

We joined forces with a company who is dedicating to producing bolt on exhaust systems that bolt on 100%, every time. With the need of a company with that sort of knowledge for the 1 Series crowd, we know this system is going to be a winner.

Here is some specs on the system

G.A.S. 135i Exhaust System Stage 1

* Axle back design for those wanting a more quite exhaust

* 3" Stainless steel mandrel bent piping that goes from muffler to the stock axle back flange

* CNC'd flanges that bolt up to the OEM Mid-pipes

* Full Stainless Steel 304 muffler in a brushed aluminum finish (we think that fully polished almost chrome look is getting really old and really tacky)

* Our mufflers are built to spec by hand and not generic "Magnaflow" style mufflers that a lot of companies use

* Stainless Steel 304 tips (either 3" or 3.5", haven't decided) in a brushed aluminum finish

* Choice of two tip styles: Street (double walled resonated tip) and Race (single walled non-resonated tip)

* Option to choose tips either fully polished, or powdercoated in ANY color you wish (including black, gunmetal, etc) for an additional minimal charge.

* Dyno proven results

G.A.S. 135i Exhaust System Stage 2

All of the above plus the following:

* Makes our Stage 1 system a FULL Downpipe Back bolt on system

* Twin 2.5" pipes with a CNC'd flange to connect to stock OR aftermarket downpipes

* Fully mandrel bent piping the entire way back

* Y-pipe that makes the twin 2.5" pipes into a single 3" pipe.

* CNC flange to bolt on to the axle back Stage 1 system.

* Option resonated version for those who want it a little less loud.

G.A.S. 135i Exhaust System Stage 0 Option:

* Stage 0 is ONLY the connecting pipes from the downpipes to the axle back.

* Can be used with our system (if you purchased Stage 1 previously), or with ANY aftermarket Axle-Back!!!

I have attached some sound clips of the prototype car with the original muffler design (we opted to change the muffler design to get rid of some of the bassiness and add some more high end "screamin" )

This video is with our STREET double walled tips.

** the muffler was a few minutes old during the video, so excuse the smoke; the system was burning in **

And here are some prototype pictures showing the muffler change. We still need to stagger the tips more to get them more flush, but it gives you an idea! (we put the new muffler in to test for fitment and adjust the jig, so please ignore the tips and piping as it's just scrap pieces of metal)

What do you guys think of the tip size itself? (disregarding that they are only scrap pieces of metal and not tips)

Any questions, comments or suggestions, PLEASE post them!!!! We want your input on building our system

- Andy

I am interested in the y and mid-pipes. I guess this would be the option "0". Do you know how much it is going to be? Please let me know. Thanks.

Can I just buy the Y-Pipes since I may want to keep the secondary cat., and will it work with the stock mid-pipes with the secondary cat. on? I know this may require some cutting of the stock mid-pipes to remove the resonator.

Just to keep you guys updated on the release and such here's how it's going to go down:

We're getting the flanges CNC'd as we speak. Everything is basically ready to go, we're just waiting on sound clips (with the new muffler design), studio shots of the full system and a dyno of the system. In the second prototype (pictures above) we changed the piping to be more straight then before. That bend was creating some restriction of air flow, so the new design should flow a lot better (and maybe even make a little more power).

We're putting the finishing touches on all the pricing and will release an intro Group Buy very shortly (couple of days). From there it only takes us about a week and a half to produce 15-20 systems.

I will say this, even with the old system, and not inflating the numbers like a lot of people do, we did see some pretty nice gains considering the test car still had the stock downpipes in place!

Pricing: I can't disclose yet, sorry but just to give you guys something to think about, our entire full system shouldn't be that much more than what some others are selling their axle backs for

*** Do you guys like the size of the pipes that were used in place of tips for that test fit above? ***

Oh man. Now agency power is coming out with a full catback with titanium tips for under $800. I hope you guys can beat that and offer tip choices. I wonder if there is a way to do a black titanium flamed tip. That is what I'd want (if it's possible).

Scratch that on the agency power exhaust. It's only an axleback. Keep us posted.

We'll keep you guys posted. We're getting a bunch of flanges cut on the CNC machine so this week not much happened

Next week is final fitting of the mid-pipes, so I'll definitely have pictures of that!!

Update 6/29/08:

Ok so the CNC guys took just a little bit too long! The flanges are coming back this week and we'll be able to bolt the mid-pipes up and take some test shots later this week hopefully. Fitting the midpipes without the flanges was a little bit pointless and we didn't want to put our poor customer through 2 test fits; he's a busy guy

Anyway, so I do have some other updates about the actual construction of this thing. We've spent hours meeting with the exhaust designers putting this thing together and got some information that they gathered from their own testing that is great to hear!

Until the pictures come out I won't divulge too much, but we opted to do a slightly different Y-pipe design than some of the current ones available. Even though this raises our cost a bit, it will help the turbos spool a bit faster and the car will make more power in the USABLE mid-range as opposed to only high up like "other" exhaust systems.

Furthermore, we finalized our muffler design! It's all made to spec for our application as opposed to some of the overseas "Magnaflow" style mufflers some companies use

Our entire system and the mufflers are actually tuned for a "European" grunt that is going to sound wicked. We aren't just putting a bunch of pipes together and calling it a day guys, I think you will really see how special this exhaust system is when you see the craftsmanship that is going into this thing. It's going to sell itself

Oh, and most importantly!!! After many hours of analyzing the OEM system our builders *guaranteed* us an OEM fit that will bolt on to our system, other exhaust systems / connecting pipes, etc every single time.... PERIOD. We DEMANDED an OEM fit and finish and expect nothing less. We want all the enthusiasts to be able to unwrap the packaging and bolt this on themselves in the garage. No need to cut, weld, tweak, etc to get it to fit right.

More later this week! A lot of designing, tip selection, muffler design, Y-pipe design, and more, but no more pictures until the damn flanges come in

*** Update ***

Confirmed final test fitting of the mid-pipes tomorrow. Start the countdown! If all goes well tomorrow first production units will be done in about a week to a week and a half.
