Wrong tire rotation direct – any danger or problems?
Finally I removed my winter tires + wheels and put back my stock wheels + RFT Bridgestones, and to my surprise I found that back in a winter time when I rushed to put winter tires I didn’t mark Left/Right/Front/Rear like I usually do…I guess at that time I thought staggered setup and rotation direction symbol on tire will allow only on combination of the possible install. And now I am puzzled did I guessed it right – stock Bridgestone have on “outside” labeling on the tire and no rotation.
What is the danger/issue if I guessed it wrong? Are there any ways to tell which way it was mounted before? When I drag my hand tires feel rough in one direction, but not other, but now I am not sure which way they should be. Any advice, or I should just stop worrying about this? |

If you are asking if it matters which direction they are it doesn't. They are not unidirectional tires. They are just asymmetrical. One side needs to be the outside and since you haven't removed them from your wheels your fine with them on either side.

What does "rotate against the design" mean? I just took off my winter tires and realized for the first time the OEM summer tires (135i) are not directional. It seems to me if I swap the summer tires side to side they will each be rotating in the opposite direction compared to last summer when the car was new. So won't at least two of the tires be rotating against the design? And weren't two of them rotating against the design all last summer? Thanks for your educational comments! |

I think what he means by against the design is if they are unidirectional like a Goodyear GS-D3. Our tires are asymmetrical not unidirectional as I noted above which means they can rotate either way. You just need to have mounted the tires correctly on the wheel as one side is marked as outside.
