Whistler 98SE Pro Radar Hardwire Install DIY

I know there is alot of DIY's of radar installs on here. Well here's another one. I started off Trying to hard wire it into the front fog light switch so when i hit the fog light button it would turn on the radar. After doing the rear fog light mod I had an extra button that did nothing but turn on the light in the dash saying front fog lights were on. If you want to see more on that mess look here. http://bettertuning.blogspot.com/201...er-to-bmw.html
Any ways, after that 5 hours filled with removing panels, stripping wiring and yelling at the computer, I decided to just run it to the fuse box. I started of by running the wire along the windshield over to where the dash meets the pillar trim. Name: IMG_0378.JPG

Then i stuffed it into the crevice between the dash and the Pillar Trim.Name: IMG_0379.JPG

Next i ran it across the door jam where the two trim pieces meet,

into the rubber strip going down to where the next two pieces meet.

I ran it back across the door jam where the two trim pieces meet to the bottom of the glove box.

In order to get it from here into the glove box all I had to do was remove this screw holding on the corner of the black plastic under the glove box. Once this screw is removed you can easily pull down the corner andstuff all the wires in there. this can be done before or after the glove box is pulled down to expose the fuse box. I pushed all the wire up in and then pulled down the glove box and grabbed it. Either way will work. Below is a picture of that screw.

Next i pulled down the glove box. First step in that is pushing on the bottom of the piston located on the left of the glove box when you open it. The bottom will slide out of its holder toward the front of the car. I pushed up on the T a little so it didn't reattach itself.

Then press on the plastic tabs that the rubber stoppers hit on each side of the glove box.

After that the glove box swings down to expose the fuse box behind it to the left.

I attached the ground wire just to the left of the fuse box, to a really big bolt. I just sandwiched the prong behind the bolt.

I ended up plugging the power for the radar int slot 5 in the fuse box. Refer above to the white folded up paper behind the glove box for fuse numbers and locations. Or you can find any one that turns on and off with the car.

After that i just bundled up the remaining cord and twist tied it together and stuffed it back and out of the way.

Re install the glove box by doing these steps in reverse. This is what it looks like from the drivers seat after everything is done.

i'm pretty happy with it. This is what it looked like before.

Huge difference. Very happy with it. The usb cord hanging there is from my JB4. Hope this helps someone.

Thank you, good write-up!

Just a suggestion for a minor improvement - instead of just sticking wire into the fuse hole, you can use an "add-a-circuit":

yeah i've seen these. i didnt have one. its not just a wire. its a male connector end and it fits into the fuse slot very snug. almost like a fuse. that wire also has its own fuse in it as well. so save some time and money and used what i have.
