Anyone fitted mesh grilles on air intakes in front spoiler?

Did anyone fancy the idea of installing mesh grilles on the cold air intakes on the sides of the front spoiler, with the same OEM mesh pattern as the semi-rectangular intake in the middle section? Not only for cosmetic reasons, but also to avoid objects from entering those "black holes" (especially leaves and stones).

Why does the ///M Division not fit mesh grilles at the entrance of these air intakes (drag force - unrestricted air intake flow?)

For an idea, see the BMW 1M Coupe Kelleners Sport KS1-S:

I think that those pictures describe perfectly why BMW doesn't put grilles over the intakes. Whew.

that's hideous.

i see what youre saying though. I guess they thought fod wouldn't be an issue. the grill would affect the incoming air's velocity a bit from the turbulence, but i don't think it would do much to the flow.

Ugly would be an understatement/improvement for that thing.

As reported in the recent M6 thread: also the side intakes of the M6 get a mesh grille (ditto for the M5 and M135i).

Wondering whether it would be an improvement, design wise, if the 1M side air intakes would feature exactly the same mesh grille as the one sporting the central air intake. Apart from aesthetics, there's a functional rationale too: impeding objects from entering the intakes (pebbles, leaves, insects, trash, etc.).

Photohop rendering, anyone ?

If interest grows, aftermarket folks could be willing to develop these for the 1M, I assume.

I like the look, pattern and weave of the mesh on the M5 and M6. Notice how you can barely see the FMIC, great way to hide it especially if you are not running stock ;-o)

It looks like also the new M3 will feature a mesh grille too + ActiveE & 1M eyebrow light bar (stripe) + 1M-alike air curtains (check the "nipple slip" or "wardrobe malfunction" on the picture below ).

So it seems that the 1M remains the lonely "grille-less" bird of the current ///M pack.

I did the rear vents and space above the diffuser. You can do the front the same way. Buy the mesh, make a template out of cardboard using a sharpie, cut the mesh at a 45 degree angle. Plastidip, then fit into space and keep in place using a very small surround molding with 3m backing tape.

Hide aftermarket fmic? Why?! It's the opposite you would want to show off
