Universal Rubber Lip
At the hazard or being stuck in with the woman too long, I need a DIY.
I've quite wanted some side skirt lips but it seems to have been a no go for a while...until I found these which I reckon would do a good job of letting me make my own. Has anyone given this a go? Any tips? It costs noting so I figure, "what the hell". http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-...item232b53126c http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E36-EZ...item1c2a574fcc http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NASIOC-Uni...item33689cc5ac |

Basically, the install consists of "drill holes so it doesn't come off".
Being that this is a "universal" lip, it's all up to you how it connects. I've been looking for some ways to fabricate some side skirt addons similar to this and ran into an issue with the 1's side skirt not being straight, so keep that in mind. The 1's stock skirt dives in both at the rear and the front. The front is actually a pretty strong angle that's not immediately apparent until you line up something that's actually straight with it. These look pretty pliable so it may not be too bad. If it were me, I would do this: - Remove stock skirt - Prep both surfaces properly with IPA to clean any dirt/debris/product - Use fasteners to either utilize the stock skirt mounting points, self-tapping screws, or drill small holes for a bolt/washer/lock washer/nut setup - Reinforce with 3M VHB tape. |

Good luck but I did something similar to my Audi.. and I totally regretted it.
Instead of these new "univeral" lips, I did it the old school way. I can't find my original DIY but it's basically this: http://www.northamericanmotoring.com...front-lip.html |

I emailed a dude on ebay who has polyurethane universal skirt addons to see if they will be pliable enough to work with the huge bulge on our door/skirt. If he thinks they will, I may grab a set. At 130 bucks they arent cheap, but if it gives me some kind of lip to even out the look of a front addon like Slek, I'll be happy. |

So it's basically a rubber garage door seal that you are bolting to the bottom of your BMW. Seems classy.

Looks like I'm the test pilot lol I share your sentiments but it takes someone to be different sometimes to break free of the herd. Put it this way, if nothing else it's given me something to do on a weekend; I'm not fussed about spending $30 and losing it, it's only a few beers. |

Like the pictures show, people have been doing this on the JDM side for awhile. I know it was a big thing when I had my Subaru. I never did it, always went with CF instead. All I can say is, best of luck.

Here is how mine turned out on the rear bumper. Took about 30 min to do.
No extra drilling needed, just used the original screws that are underneath that connect to the under-body covers. |
