Red Brake Calipers for the 1
Does anyone know where I can order these?
Or do I need to paint them, I'm basically clueless. But my 135i is black with coral red leather, and i think the red brake calipers would add a really subtle, but badass touch to the car. |

I would think that since these are painted gray already with what looks like pretty glossy paint, that you will not be able to just clean and paint them like other cars. You will need to scuff or remove the existing paint first for a good bond.

On the 911, before the installation of the twin turbo brakes, I painted my calipers yellow with the special high temperature caliper paint. The aftermarket paint can't deal with the heat and lightened up considerably with a brown tinge to it... Of course if you don't take your car to the track, it probably would not be a problem.
I don't think you have to disassemble them to get them powder coated. Only very good masking is necessary. The temperature that powder coating gets to is nowhere near what the seals see on the track.

I just had all four wheels done for $300 including prep with sandblasting. I going to have some motorcycle rearsets done for a buddy and they wanted $25 for them. So kinda had to say maybe $125 range for all 4.:iono:

VHT. I did it. It sucked. Good luck with that. You will most likely void the coverage on the brakes too, if you removed them outside of service. Don't want to mess with free brakes. Could look bitchin though.

I painted the calipers on my Z4 with G2 manufacturing Brake Caliper paint. It is an epoxy base paint; you have to mix two parts. Four years later they look new with no chips, scratches or stains. I took my calipers off the rotors but did not disconnect the fluid lines. BMW replaced my brakes under the service program with no questions ask.

just like that post about swapping the headlights for no-amber european spec ones... I think this mod is not worth it.
Read this out loud to yourself a minimum of 100 times, and repeat daily: THE CAR IS ALREADY PERFECT.

I'm not trying to be rude, but this entire forum section is on cosmetic modification. If you think the car is already perfect, then why are you here to tell me this because everyone who is modding their car simply hold different opinions on that issue.

I know, I didn't mean it in general, as in "there is no need to ever modify anything about this car".
I meant it for use when you can't proceed with a certain mod or some good idea turns out not to be feasible; for peace of mind purposes. I did not mean the car in stock condition, I meant your car, at that particular point in time, from the point of view of a 1addict. As I said earlier, I ordered the same colour and would like myself to perform this mod; I suppose typing it removed the humour from it.
