CF Eyelids + a couple countryside pics

Just got some CF eyelids. Where are they from? Here's a hint, the box smelled like stir fry when I opened it

The weave quality is good, but fitment is a bit off. If you just apply some pressure to the tape on the back, it sticks and molds the lids the way you want to.

Not sure if I totally like them. You can't tell very well in the pictures, but the lines of the lids line up pretty well not with the line between the hood and fender itself, but the crease/bend along the metal, so it doesn't look half bad. Just not sure if the overall shape is something that will grow on me or grow off me..

and a couple random pics from driving around the countryside

Thanks! I'd say let's meet up for a drive, but you're in NC. Maybe when I drive down to florida to get my FL registration/plates.

Is that a Vorst hood that just doesnt need hood pins or are u planning on drilling some in later?

I really would like to go with a vented hood, im just cautious about fitment and all the time and money to paint it and install pins if necessary, etc. etc. But doing so would probably lower my max oil and underhood temps by as much as 20-30 degrees on hot days, like today i was cruising around, lotta stop n go shit thru the city and I was consistently at 240-245 F oil temp.

I dunno, there are pros and cons..

That and where the fuck am i gonna put my stock hood

UPDATE: The 3m tape provided by the vendor (pre-stuck to the eyelids) is REALLY crappy. One of my lids flew off on the highway and I just had to order a replacement. My advice is to NOT use their tape if anyone is planning on buying these and just buy your own 3m tape or other adhesive.

on the upside, steve (if that's REALLY his name..) is very nice and hooked me up with a replacement real fast. still.. long ship time from china.

It's a seibon hood, not Vorsteiner. The hood comes stock with the vents closed, but looking at the hood it seems easy to remove the closed slats and replace them with open slats (switching as need be based on weather), so when the weather warms up a bit that's gonna become my project

The vents would probably do a LOT for cooling, but 240-245 seems about normal running temps from what I've seen from myself and other users on here. I think an FMIC would do more for intake temps than opening the hood would, but for oil temps i dunno..

i didn't have the problem with the stock hood since mine was bent up when i replaced it but definitely let us know what you end up doing, man!

Well a few sites do offer replacement oil coolers, forget where i just saw one, think it was AMS or something. Twin coolers in the front fenders with aluminum scoops in front, pretty sweet but like $1500 for two

I think overall the best bet for me reducing my underhood temps is an HPF FMIC and some grill scoops

...that seems ridiculously expensive^^^

I mean, yeah it would help. But before that i'd rather get an FMIC or even an LSD for that kinda money!

Oh yeah forgot to answer this. I was told by vivid racing and a couple other vendors that pins aren't necessary unless you regularly go triple digits (120+ mph) for extended periods of time. I've had the hood on for close to 4 months, have hit triple digits many times and regularly go 85-90 and have had no issues whatsoever.

Interesting..so i wonder why is it that so many people think its absolutely necessary on pain of death that you use pins for the ICarbon hoods and this one apparently theres no need at all...

I read a few reviews of those who had the ICarbon hood who reported that they saw the hood "flexing or flapping" during higher speed driving (80-100mph i guess). Supposedly because its a lighter hood and the part where it attaches isnt as strong?

I dunno, would seem to be something id wanna get ironed out before I go spending the time and money cutting and drilling thru my expensive CF hood ya know?

You know, I never really got why everyone on here is so crazy about the pins. I guess the "better safe than sorry" mentality isn't a bad mentality to have.

When I drive at high speeds I notice the flex. However, even the stock hood flexes at triple digit speeds. It's never really "flapped" I don't think, but at first the flexing was a bit scary. I got used to it pretty fast though, and I'm confident that the single hook used on the stock hood is safe enough. The primary reason hood pins are used it because you can't drill through pure CF, so the hook can sometimes rip out if it's glued on. This hood is single sided so the hook is drilled into the fiberglass/plastic, so I'm not too worried

I dunno, i guess if im ever driving at triple digit speeds, im not really paying attention to my hood among all things So ive never witnessed this flexing thing. But so I guess the idea is that all single sided hoods have the hook drilled into the hood, not glued? Id love to have this confirmed about the icarbon hoods.
