Finally - Musicar's 10" sub enclosure for E82

Due to repeated requests, we will be developing and releasing an OEM-look enclosure for the E82. Next week we will use this thread for pictures of the sample as it's created, and then it goes off to the toolmakers. There will be a delay of a few weeks - maybe a month - to have units ready to ship.

It will look stock, it will be absolutely correct for the woofers we use in it, it will come with a grille that also looks OEM, it will mount cleanly and securely with no screw holes, and it will be up for preorder in several configurations and packages. We deliver a working system that's guaranteed to work wonderfully with your BMW, and the audio system in it.

(Note - if you have base Stereo, you don't just need a subwoofer. If you have HiFi, I feel the same way - you have other problems - but we have HiFi upgrades available with just the sub and with full systems).

If you are interested in being in on the pre-order, PLEASE email us. PMs get lot or we don't get notifications right away. Tell us your MY, if you have base Stereo or HiFi or Top HiFi (if you're not sure, check here) and if you have Sirius SAT radio, thanks.

Excellent! It was one of the last things needed to round out a system I am planning to buy from you. Please include a lot of pics of it installed! That is the downfall to all of the sub boxes I've seen for sale, everyone has a picture of it sitting on a bench or the floor, no one yet has shown a picture of one installed. If the lines flow and the carpet matches the rest of the trunk I'm in.

I assume that the volume of it will match one or more subs as well, true? Seems obvious coming from you but wanted to verify.

they will most likely package it like the E9X sub enclosures with options of subs so it will be all pre-packaged. They spend a fair bit of time testing and tuning each application in the car and pick the best options to give the buyer confidence and the musicar guarantee.

We got our first off-tool unit yesterday. It's already spoken for as part of a system, but here are some pics before it gets shipped to Australia

I'm not a great photographer, and these were snapped with my iPhone - they really don't do justice to how this thing disappears in the trunk and looks as if it came from the factory. We have some pics taken with a better camera on a tripod and I will post those when I have them.

The bottom fits into the depression in the trunk floor in the corner. The wire with the Molex disconnect goes through an existing opening in the trunk liner. The mounting bracket aligns with a stock trim fastener. No cutting, no mods, no screws into anything.

We are not just cramming a woofer that fits into the enclosure and calling it a day - we are using a woofer that really matches to this enclosure volume well, and extends the low end as much as we can get (after all, with 8" under the floor, we don't need more midbass, we need subbass). If you haven't heard a corner-loaded enclosure in a BMW, you'll really be impressed.

It also stops well short of the trunk-floor seam. The trunk floor can be removed without any problems, and the enclosure doesn't encroach into the trunk opening.

We are going to be able to offer this at our target price of $495 loaded with the ID10.

For cars with Logic 7 or harman/kardon, we have a plug-and-play 250W fan-cooled amp/sub package with everything you need for $895 (includes modified and extended Technic harness, power harness, amplifier that fits under trim panels, and the Musicar E82 subwoofer module with an ID10. It is now also available as an option to our Level One and Two upgrades, as well as allowing us to now offer a predefined Level Three system the E82.

Please contact us via email with any questions or with orders, thanks!

(Note - we really don't recommend adding subs to base Stereo systems, nor to HiFi systems - if you have one of those, sub-bass is not the biggest shortcoming your system has, and we think you'll be happier doing a system upgrade rather than a sub-add package).

What's the available mounting depth in this enclosure?

Looks fantastic. Now spill the beans! Who ordered this from Australia and what are the shipping charges like?

How does this stack up to your TPLSM3 exclosure Angus? I'm undecided which box to go with..

Looks to be substantially shallower. I've got a feeling that there won't be a very large range of Subwoofers that will fit in it - and even less that will be happy with the smaller cubic volume. The ID 10 Sub is only 300w...

Looks to be very nicely built though...

My guess - without having seen one in the flesh - is that it won't be capable of keeping up with a seriously powerful setup.

Thanks for the tips Angus. I can't find any info on the ID10 sub so have no idea how good or bad it is. What are your thoughts?

I really like the shallow design because it frees up more room though.

I'd bet this is true. But I'd also bet that if your'e looking at this option, you aren't concerned about a "seriously powerful" setup. 9 of 10 owners will likely love this. I'm not trying to argue w/ you, just thinking out loud that this is true but doesn't matter.

I put Boston Acoustics subs in the spare tire well of my last car, a pair of 10" ers that only needed .5 cubic ft each, and they hit pretty hard. I remember fiberglassing that thing and looking at the pics here I wouldn't be surprised if this enclosure is at least that big. If so, there are sub options.

I'm guessing it's this one or a version of: http://www.mikescaraudioreviews.com/...woofer-review/

Vinney, you can have a good look at mine on Saturday and see if you think it takes up too much space.... I think it's worth it to be able to put a bigger speaker in...

From what I've read the ID 10 is very good for SQ but starts to suffer from distortion (suspension noise) if you push it over about 250w RMS...

Agreed. If you just want to add to the existing setup then this is gonna be great for most people. My thoughts are that it doesn't really make sense to put an SQ focussed Sub in the boot where it's muffled by the back seat anyway...

I have the Alpine upgrade in my car so my front Splits and under-seat subs are running off a 4x80w Amp and my sub is a JL Audio 10w6v2 it's got about 50% more power handling but needs less Cubic Volume and more Mounting Depth:

My concern would be that if you are amping the Speakers then I'm not sure that a 250-300w sub is sufficient. Having said this, I am only using an educated guess about which sub the ID10 is and I have't actually heard it.

PS: Mine also allows you to lift up the floor cover without obstruction.

All of this is just speculation until Ken chimes in with some specs though....

Thanks for the heads up Angus. I'll be picking your brain for info this Saturday. I have no idea if 250 RMS is sufficient so I'll be having a good listen of your system to judge
