I think that in today's market the 1 is pretty close to an 02. It's obviously a lot heavier and wont handle like an 02 but if they made something that was any closer to the 02 i don't think it would sell. Sure it would thrill myself and other enthusiasts but not many people outside of that circle. BMW is a business afterall.
You're right of course, but would'nt it be nice if they offered a bare bones option for those who want it?

I totally agree that it would be great if they offered a bare bones option, but unfortunately it doesn't appear to be part of their marketing plan. At least it looks like there will be the Tii option, although I suspect that the price of admission will be high.

The Tii seems great but I to think it would start for 40k+ which puts it out of reach for me.

I had a chance to ride in a factory 118D a couple of years ago, and fell in love. It reminded me of my 2002, only with modern technology. Can't wait to replace my tank [645 convertible] with a 128 convertible.
