Aftermarket Middle Seat Replacement

I love the 135i and the small size, but every once in a while it might be useful to be able to squeeze a small person in the middle in the back. Does anyone think there will be an aftermarket middle tray seat replacement offered?

The only time I found the middle seat useful in the back of my 328 was transferring people from bar to bar. In that situation, I don't think the tray will make much of a difference.

easy dude. This is an every day drivers car. There is no reason why I shouldn't be able to pack 3 people in the back if the occasion arises, I'd just prefer that there was some sort of seatbelt/non plastic tray seat.

I don't understand the debate. Maybe you are such a "driving purist" that you can't stand the thought of putting a third person in the back seats of your car. But for some of us it would be very nice to have the added convenience of a third seat.

Not sure what prevetned them from simply putting in a seat cussion and a seatbelt in the first place. The little tray in the back is tits on a bull.

Can't imagine going after an aftermarket mod, though. I think it would be fairly invasive and expensive. We have a minivan for haulin' the kids around.

Just sit them on the center. They are going to be uncomfortable as hell no matter what. I drove 6 people in a 99 mercury cougar, which only has 2 back seats for 2 hours. They sucked it up. And as for the seatbelt, you can't just slap one on. You have to have proper mounting points which would have had to be engineered into the original design. If you have so many friends you have to schlep around, maybe a bigger car is in order, or maybe a 2nd car. But I guess my ultimate question is, why are you worried about their comfort. If it is someone important, like a client, you wouldn't stick them back there in the first place, and if it is just a friend, they should understand and be grateful for the ride.

Even the 2002 had a middle seat in the rear. I'm not entirely sure if it had a seatbelt but at least someone didn't have to sit on a plastic tray.

It's a 2+2 coupe... if you need to haul more passengers, you might want to buy something else...

I always wonder why people buy a car and then try to make it something it's not...

Just get the minivan, you know you want it

Thanks, this helps. Where can I find a 300hp rwd minivan that weighs less than 3400 pounds and handles beautifully?

I don't understand why I'm getting flamed for suggesting that it would be more practical to have a 2+3 rather than a 2+2+plastic tray for crayons or whatever it is that people put in a small plastic tray.

I recall seeing something about the driveshaft runs directly underneath the middle portion of the rear seat, which is why there is no middle seat. Unfortunately I can't remember where I heard this.

The reason I said it was dumb is because the only person small enough to fit there is either a child or really petite hot chick, neither of which you would want riding in a car WITH NO SEATBELT. I really think this thread is a waste of bandwidth but I simply had to reply because the idea is just so ridiculous.

What's ridiculous about having BMW offer 3 seats in the back instead of 2 seats and a worthless plastic tray? Give me a reason why this is ridiculous.
