Great Video, thanks Larry!

Can you post the specifics of the saw you used for this again? Was it a harbor freight?

How did you cut the corners exactly? Seems like you could only do a square corner with that saw, but the template corners are rounded?

The vid says there are no wires under there; nothing at all to worry about then?

Hi, Ianc,

There truly, no wires underneath at all. You don't need to worry when do the cutting.

As for the corners, I simply used a narrower blade to cut at 45 degree, which connects the left or right side end and the upper side end. There is no need to cut a round corner at all. The cutting line as showed on the template reserves enough margin. No worry...

The vibratory saw I used is a OEM from a factory. It is as identical as the Chicago, Rockwell one. They are the same.

Nice video and good looking end result.

Did the saw come with the half circle blade? I would think it would work better for the straight runs.

Hi Larry,

Thanks for the response. Who is the actual maker of the saw? Can you furnish a link where you purchased it?

Also, I saw on another post where the center vents below the bin on the dash had to be removed to access the lower bin mounting screws? How did you remove those vents?

Thanks again for the info!

The OP is in Shanghai. His sources of tools are probably a bit different from those of us in the U. S. The saw looks to be the same as this:

http://www.harborfreight.com/multifu...ool-67256.html

I have the harbor freight model and have used it to sand and cut wood. It works well. I have no doubt it would make this cut just fine. I would have used a different blade for the straight cuts but the HF saw comes with both.

For those of you on the west coast you may get good mail order service from HF. I live on the east coast and I am much too impatient to wait for HF on a mail order. But there is a store near me so I just go there.

I paid $77 last week from unitedbmwonline.com.

Would like to hear about those center vents; is there a DYI I missed somewhere for them?

Hi, you must remove the center aircon vent to gain access to the 2 selftapping screws which used to secure the lower end of the storage bin to the dashboard.

Also, you will need the space to connect the wire that power the led in the storage bin.the following pic is the way I put the wire. the other end of the wire goes to the bulb in the glove box.

It is super easy to remove the center vent. However, take cautious since there is harness behind the vent which connects the DTC LOCK switches. Use a flat head object, like the yellow one at the right, pop out the upper side of the vent . Use your finger to keep the gap between the vent and the dashboard. Then, push down the vent, firmly and slowly. The vent should come off.

I think these tools are all made in China. Regardless the different brands, itself should be the same. My saw comes with a half-circle blade, and other 2 "straight" blades as showed above.

I chose to use the straight blade for safety reasons. Anyway, the result is pretty good. the cutting line is clean, no melt of the dashboard at all..

X3 has a plastic piece that replaces the entire bin, if you buy the full kit, it comes with a garmin mount and nav unit or you can just buy the pieces/wiring and provide your own garmin. Or just buy the plastic replacement tray and do all the wiring yourself.
