Brake Dust

I really like the look of having lots of brake dust on my wheels. This is one of the things I truly love about my 135i. I bet it has more brake dust, especially on the front wheels, than any other car.

Can anyone think of a car that produces more brake dust on its wheels than the 135i? If there is another car that has more brake dust I might consider selling my 135i so I can buy it.

Lots of cars. My SRT-8 and SRT-6 had horrible brake dust. My buddy just got a new Z06 and he cleans his rims every time he drives it.

Save the brake dust. I have heard some scientists are working to make a new fuel from it. Oh, an alternative is to get black wheels. Next time you see a MINI with white wheels you won't feel so bad. Nick

I feel comforted to know other cars are competitive with the 135i. I still bet the 135i is in the lead.

I like Double Nick's idea to save up my brake dust for future fuel use. I'll see if I can figure out a good way to save mine.

I think I'm particularly peeved right now because I just put my OEM wheels and tires back on after the winter. All winter I was blissfully unconcerned with my Tire Rack Sport Edition KM 11s that are about the same color as my tail pipes.

My mates Srt6 does have alot of brake dust. We're always complaining about it. The worst part is that he has so many spokes to clean its so funny!

+1 on the STi. I had an '05 and the brake dust was horrible and the stock BBS's were near impossible to clean with all the grooves. Most performance cars will accumulate dust quickly, the key is finding rims that are easier to clean. I find the stock 264s on the 135 to be pretty easy to clean.

I like the brake dust...gives the rim a little gunmetal color to it.

I just got wheel wax the other day, Love it so far. Whines the wheels up nicely, and you just hit them with water when the dust gets bad and it goes away.

I have a 350z and I put Ceramic Brake Pads on it and the brake dust is a whole hell of a lot lower. With my 128i, the brake dust is unbearable. I'm going to ask my dealer about ceramic pads for the car and see what they say. Hopefully they offer them, don't care about the cost because in my eyes it will be worth it. FYI the pads for my Z were only 60 dollars online. Had a friend that has his own garage install them.

the biggest problem with the brake dust is if you leave it on there for too long and haven't sealed the wheels with wax or similar, the brake dust will etch your wheels. It happened on my X3 that I wasn't as anal with as far as washes.

Don't know about more, but the dust on the wheels is about equal to every other BMW I've owned. I think it's done by the factory so that even if you've debadged your car, folks will still know you're driving a BMW!
