So why do guys in heavy lifted trucks think they are faster than me?

Was going to lunch today and was getting on the freeway. Double left hand turn lane on to the on ramp. I was in the outside lane waiting for the light. This Chevy Silverado 2500, 4x4, double cab, lifted, huge tires pulls up on the inside lane. I can tell he just wants to show this little BMW how big a man he is in his truck. Honestly, 9 times out of 10 I'm not even going to be interested, engine was not warmed up, was in a mellow mood, let them burn the extra gas. But there is just something about somebody in a pickup who thinks that they are faster than my little supercar, that I just can't resist. Light turns green and he hits it hard. He's around the turn faster because he's inside and I know he thinks he has it. I just slowly go up to about 3/4 pedal, didn't even bother to drop it into Sport. And he just watches me pull even and away nice and steady. Had him by 2 car lengths by the time I reached the gore point.
Honestly not bragging. And I know we are not supposed street race. But it was an on ramp and I slowed to traffic speed as soon as I merged (didn't care if he passed then). But sometimes you just have to put people in their place.

It must be a regional thing...I think we have more jacked up trucks that have never even seen gravel, much less actual off road driving than any place else I've lived...kinda gives ya a bit of insight as to their thinking.

I have both the 128 also a Z4 and a dodge 1500 long bed quad can 4x4. If I could get the torque to the ground without wheel spin in the truck it would be a close drag on an entrance ramp. But the light rear end just won't let me do it. The truck is tuned on will move but it will eat tires daily if I allowed it. Our cars should win that every time due to that alone.

I get this in South Orange County ALL the time, and I too cannot stand it and just show them a little glimps of power.

G35's and 350's are the main offenders. And I ALWAYS kill them, from zero to the speed limit of course

Yeah, the trucks can surprise you. I too have a 4x4 quad cab diesel that is juiced...but not lifted and serves only as a tow rig. I'm sure in 4 high it could launch pretty well and put the hurt on a lot of "fast" cars...no point...

There's always some idiot who thinks that all they need to drive fast is a lead foot. On my way to work there's a nice highway interchange I take. Occasionally I have someone in an suv trying to keep up with me which is amusing because I don't brake as I hit the overpass and that's when they suddenly realize the difference between a truck and 1er.

I'm in Tx and i see this daily, little boys driving around in their big raised shiny diesel trucks that daddy bought. I pay them no attention unless they try to bully me on the road or something.

I almost always ignore them...

At the same time I always laugh to myself at their 5mpg with the pedal to the floor vs. probably 4x that in my car. ( not a 1 yet, but a mildly bolted/tuned Mazdaspeed3 ).

And those are always the guys who tailgate on the freeway too. If it were a smaller car tailgating me, I'd be tempted to hit the brakes and get a new rear bumper from the insurance company, but a big truck could probably obliterate me.

I am always amazed at just because they drive around in those jacked up trucks and oversized SUV's that they think the entire road belongs to them.

When driving in the fast lane and I come upon a truck or SUV and flash my lights they either do not understand, what I think is a known signal asking them to pull over, or they just think they are bigger and therefore can stay where they want. I have to wait for the lane next to me to give me room to drive around them.

We are loosing a lot of courtesy on the roads.

This is true for so many people period. I think they think since they are in "fast lane" then are going fast. I seem to pass more people on the right, wish the cops would give tickets to those holding up traffic.

Even if it were a smaller car, I think you'd need more than a rear bumper if you got hit at freeway speeds.

A lot of people act as if they think my car has a 4 cylinder. I had a Kia Optima jump out to the right to go around me this morning - while I was over the speed limit. A slight nudge of the gas and he couldn't come close to getting around. In SC the trucks are a problem too. Some seem to think they have a NASCAR racer. On good days I leave them alone. Sometimes I do not restrain myself and they find out their big V8 doesn't mean their vehicle is faster than mine.

Where you at in SC. I have a place on Myrtle. We spend the summer and most holidays there. Trying to go full time but jobs are tough down there.

Funny, I always do the opposite and take off very slow, than getting on the highway next to him and shift to 3rd, even my little 128i is quite quick when the RPM's happy
