Trouble opening the storage lid

I guess this is for those without the sat nav option. Since I got my 135 about 2 weeks ago, I noticed that the storage (designed for sunnies) lid on the top centre console can be difficult to open i.e. the button does not work. I sent an email to the dealer and they said it sometimes take a little while to loosen up. Its a little annoying cos thats where I put my garage door remote and most of the time it takes 5-6 presses before the lid opens. Anyone with the same problem??

Yep, I've had the same problem from day one. Trouble is that it's usually only the "first" time you use it that it sticks. Try it again immediately afterwards a few times, and the lid tends to open fine. Three months and 3500km later, the lid still sticks. I'll give it a few more months to loosen up, and if it's still the same will be back at the dealers to get it fixed or replaced. I only use it for my sunnies and have found that if I stick my finger under the front edge while pressing the button, and wedge it open, the lid opens OK. Not a great solution, but ... meh ... don't use it often enough to worry about.

Stuck lid

Yes, identical problem; much like Guran except I almost never use it.

OT, I'm thinking of using the compartment as a site to install a boost gauge.

Mine still sticks, however I keep my son's fingers permanently stuck in there so it always opens

My method seems to work most times- use your middle three fingers with the force of the push spread evenly over the button.

Just tried it mattyv. Your technique didn't work for me. The lid would sort of half lift up but still got stuck. A finger nail under the edge of the lid then popped it open.

mine sticks too. went to the dealer and he said it sticks on his X5 as well, and every other model that has it.

to fix it they offered to file down the claws on the lid so they are a little shorter and don't get caught in the holes when your fingers come off the button. OR if you got the patience you can practice pushing down on the button and then slowly allowing the lid to rise while your fingers still have downward pressure on the button so the claws on lid just clear the holes.
i chose to give it a go and it works but its annoying when your in a rush and forget.

It appears you don't seem to have that option over there. It sits in the middle of the console, where the navigation unit is normally placed.

Can you quote the details (model, manufacturer, dealership, etc.)?

I don't have any problems with mine opening. In fact sometimes it seems to open of it's own accord when it's parked in the sun? Not real cool as that's where I hide my drugs...

Well if it's one of two options ...

a) storage lid button sticks shut
b) storage lid pops open all on it's own

... then I'll gladly settle for "option a". I've already had enough of "option b" on my MINI. Guaranteed, when I hit a big bump in the road, the glovebox lid would pop open and everything spill out on the floor!

Well at least I'm not the only one with the problem. I use it to store my garage remote so I might have to put it somewhere else now.

I guess if thats the only problem i have.. life's pretty good. =)

no he just did a quick calculation and rattled off some names but I wasnt quite happy with the capabilities of the gear and the screen was a bit small. I did this about July last year so Im giving it 12 months from then and will re visit. So I will see whats around in a few months.

I've been storing my garage & house-security remote in the ashtray box ahead of the gear lever. Had to slide out the liner first, but then it's perfect for holding the two remotes. The slow pop-up release on this cover is very nice.

I asked a dealer on the weekend, quote "... it sticks in every car and I do the delivery, I just really quickly brush over it... I don't have the heart to tell them they've just spent that much money in this car and the storage tray doesn't work properly... you'll just need to press the button... and make a gentle push with your thumb and it'll open, all you really need is just that little nudged...." interesting

bmw dealers all over must be sick of coming up with excuses for this problem. apparantly filing back the latches works. i haven't tried yet i am scared i'll do it too much and it'll pop open when i hit a pot hole.
