Is my car totaled ?? - need advice
Hi Guys,
So I ended up hitting the car in front of me (who suddenly braked) at about 30-35mph Both front & side airbags deployed. Attached is the picture of the damage. The car wouldnt start and had to be towed. I later found out its a safety feature in Exx BMWs that shut of power to the engine. The front fenders/windshield/windows/wheels/tires all look fine, no damage or cracks. All buttons in the interior were working. What are your thoughts ??, I've never been involved in such a serious crash so have no idea of the damage Appreciate your time Sid Update 7/16: So the insurance called and offered a settlement number, which is about 2k less than what I expected. The agent said the number cannot be negotiated. Though she asked for my window sticker just to check if they have not missed out on anything. My questions: Do I need to accept their offer ?? What are my options if I do not ?? Last edited by sid21177; 07-16-2015 at 12:47 PM.. Reason: Insurance called |

Not a total, but it'll still be expensive to repair.

One of the big considerations for declaring a car totaled is frame damage. If the underlying frame is seriously damaged, the car is normally declared a total loss by insurance companies.

I looked under the hood and could only see the crumpling near the front bumper.
I also looked around and underneath and could not see any visible damage (I'm no expert though) I really hope it can get repaired |

Could be totaled. My 7 year old Z4 got new front and rear bumpers courtesy of the car behind me. Since I wasn't paying I took it to a high end body shop, total repair bill was $2800. I can only imagine what your damage comes out to.

No almost definitely not totaled. Take it to a great body shop and it can look new again. I'd guess 7-10k repair if both headlights need to be replaced. Insurance is amazing.

I'm guessing 5-6k for exterior, 5-6k for airbags (& rear view mirror) I live in AZ and the crash happened here in CO on a business trip, so thats an additional headache I have to deal with. If people in Denver & around can recommend a good body shop I'd be most grateful, car is still under BMW warranty |

I only say could be because airbags were deployed and not sure what your car is valued at
