2012' 135i - 6MT fluid change 75K

Hey Everyone,

I'm up for my next oil change and I'm thinking about changing the 6MT fluid while I'm in there.

Anyone have any suggestions/advice on changing manual gearbox fluid. I've heard not to change it after X KM's but haven't heard if that's the case with the E82.

Who changes their 6MT fluid and at what intervals?

I did mine at 1200 miles for the break-in using BMW LT5 fluid. Mike Miller recommends every 30K miles after that.

It's really easy, here's a post on how to do it - might as well do the diff as well. Since we don't have a drain plug in the diff cover, you have to use suction to get the old gear oil out.

Did mine, MTL, at 48K (car was new to me at that time, I'd have done it at 30K had I had the opportunity). Very easy to do.

i do mine every 30k miles on the 1M.....

for reference; the transmission on the 1M is the same as your 135.....although the clutch and flywheel are totally different.

Yes, as IEDEI said. N55 135i and 1 M share the same gearbox. 128i and N54 135i have a different one.

Haven't changed the fluid yet (16k miles).

Really? N54 135i 6MT is different than the 1M N54 6MT, but instead shares the N55 135i's gearbox? Interesting.

yes because the 1M was launched on the LCI updated 1-series design; the transmission used on the 1M and N55 135i is also the same transmission used on the new M3/M4 albeit with further tweaks and modifications.

Thanks!

So I guess my next question would be is there any risk doing it at 75K if it's never been done prior? Ive had it since 15K and never done it, I doubt the first owner did.

Did my wife's 128i's diff and trans with Red Line 90WT (diff) and MTL (trans) at 37K. Probably do it again at 65K.

Is there any difference in feel between the two transmissions? I've always thought my N54's 6MT was the absolute best I've had. So perfectly tactile and heavy.

yes....definitely! the upgraded N55 gearboxes are even better....smooth! I liked the N54 manuals I've driven but the N55 version moved it up a notch....which is probably why it was also used for the 1M and for the F8X M3
