How on earth did you manage that...
I am going to have a go at matching that one, since we have the same car. Excellent.

Do you remember that Top Gear episode where Clarkson drove that Audi Diesel 800 miles on one tank of fuel? It was like that - I was concentrating so much! Then I realised the cruise control did an even better job than my right foot.

The 325 is stunningly economical on the motorway - I regularly get 41.5mpg out of it. What amazes me is that I can get such good fuel economy out of it on the motorway yet round town I get one of the worst - it's at 19.0mpg at the moment

This was taken 70 miles after filling up. Didn't enjoy the drive half as much as normal though! Crusing on motorway at a constant 80mph.

Diesels don't count. That should be a separate thread.

660 Thats outrageous.. I thought I had done really well, clearly I am an amateur. I shall have to have another go.

What speed and for how far were you doing during the retrospective period before filling up.

The key is very gentle! consistant! driving for at least 15-20 miles then fill up. I am usually around the 420 too but that is on a good day, quite often it is 390.

I reset my miles everytime I fill my tank, so that's 25.8 miles driven with 477 miles left. After taking the picture, I got up to 550 total miles between driven and miles left.

How about this one - 715 miles, 90 miles after filling (OBC was also indicating 60.6mpg) :

I better tack on my new personal best:

45.5mpg after 100 miles driving, 550 miles after 90 miles driving = 640 miles

Cheers mate...

On your achievement however, fabulous. I am going to have to try and beat that but I know it is going to be hard. Such a high figure with so many miles driven is very impressive.

jhbodle - that is indeed impressive! I reached similar figures last summer on a vacation. I had filled my tank and reset everything (as I always do) and then drove for about 70 miles of primarily decending roads coming out of mountains. My daily commute is about 60 miles one way and sometimes I will achieve about 35 MPG (36.5 all time best) on the way to work.

I always zero the counters with each fillup and keep track (OCD). This is a typical result for my tank:

Looks like the 3 litre version of the 325 can be pretty economical too.

I am going to purposely try and beat some of these figures.
I think the only way it can be done is on a long flat straight road on which a good history can be built up, then possibly back again after a fill up. Here's hoping that the police don't find an e90 doing 50 down the M56 at 4 in the morning strange.

The best I can acheive with my 325 is around 460 miles, just after a refill. Average of 31mpg, in mix of dual carriagewa, and a bit of street driving congestion. And I tend to give it some welly when I know I am heading for a refill, and a couple of nights a week.

I tried cruise control for the first time this evening on the A3, I am sure I could improve the fuel economy. I found it really eary (sp) with cruise control for the first time after twenty years of right pedal driving, I felt as though i should get a pillow, so I could take a little nap, whilst the car drove me home !

Optional English Language Dictionary

What the heck does "welly" mean? I'm diggin the verbage from our brethen in the UK. In fact, so much so, that I use the word "bloody" in my spanish and "American" english speaking household as to not drop the "F bomb" in front of my young daughters. Although, I must say, they must be catching on to its true meaning - I'm starting to hear the "Papa! Stop saying bloody!" I'm beginning to wonder if I'm truly the king of my castle! Cheers!
