Man, what was Robcut1 thinking to put that black paint all over his car.

The front splitter is basically there to protect the "real" front of the car, and to add a bit to the profile to balance the front with the rear trunk lid (which was done for function). The rear lid is 100% carbon fiber, therefore I left some of it unpainted to show the beauty of the carbon fiber. From the side of the car you see the edge of the trunklid which is carbon fiber, therefore the edge of the protective front splitter was painted black to visually match the edge of the trunklid. The sides are done to bring consistency and adhesiveness to the front and rear profile when viewed from the side.

Is there really that much of a difference in height between the stock car with add on spoiler and the csl trunk lid?
I think it like 2 to 3 inches at most, but at least it is integrated instead of stick on.

If you ask me. Yes the difference is huge. I like the BMW OEM Performance spoiler. Between the integrated one and original I would go for original.

Who can confirm the various spoiler heights (perhaps best to compare from the ground based on stock suspension):

- Spoiler delete = R"/cm

is lower than

- Gurney lip (StickOn, OEM, Stock) = X"/cm

is lower than

- CF performance spoiler (StickOn, OEM, Aftermarket) =Y"/cm

is lower than

- CSL style spoiler (Spoiler, 3rd Party, Aftermarket) ~Z"/cm

More interestingly, is there any way for us to compare generated down force at a reference speed or as a function of speed. Mr.Metak did find the approximated (from 335-M3 compare) down force stock compared to lip spoiler delete to be ~11LBS/5Kg @124MPH.

The stock trunk lid with stick on spoiler is 6.5 inches above the top of the license plate frame. The CSL lid adds 1 inch in height and goes to 7.5 above the frame. It also "ducks" out 2 inches mote than stock, (from 1 to 3 inches).
In real life, so far, in a month, no one has known it wasn't a stock trunk lid. It only becomes accentuated if you are kneeling on the ground and look up that you really see much of the "ducktail" effect. In real life, I feel it has a very natural appearance on the car proportionately, from all angles.

Do the ducktail-style spoilers actually improve anything performance wise? Compared to GT-style spoilers?

Although I have the factory optional rear cf spoiler, I consider it a "vanity" mod more than a performance modification.

If you're really looking to generate downforce, you need a wing -- which allows air to pass underneath -- not simply an upturned lip.

Agree! Its just for looks. RevoZport have a "real" wing. Do look terrible but would add downforce... ;-)

I like it.
$1500 and a 1M make for an impressive piece of hardware. Especially when comparing to an AMG C63 black series coupe with track package which will set you back a good $145,000.
By the way, I am certain that the increased surface area of the CSL type spoiler will create additional down-force as well. It's just elementary physics!

The downforce/lift results I posted were done in a wind tunnel which is not that easy to do. I think the results are very accurate, better than an approximation. I posted them in this thread if anyone is interested: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=593671

It looks like double the real estate above the 3rd brake light to me.

As stated above, the stock trunk lid with stick on spoiler is 6.5 inches above the top of the license plate frame. The CSL lid adds just 1 inch in height From stock stick on spoiler and goes to 7.5 above the frame. It also "ducks" out 2 inches mote than stock, (from 1 to 3 inches).
The "ducktail" spoiler will add downforce by additional wind resistance pushing down on a larger surface area than stock, the air foil "raze" spoiler will work like an upside down wing, the underneath surface area will be curved and therefore larger than the top of the wing forcing greater airflow underneath consequently creating lower pressure on the bottom forcing downward pressure which is the reverse of lift.

Here are a few of my pics of an AW with the BMW CF trunk spoiler with a 'customized' white stripe. Got it done at a local shop that came well recommended, for good reason

///1M: Was it not possible to wrap the whole roof? It looks strange to leave the lines to the left and right on the roof white. My second question would be why you went with matte black roof? Everything else on your car is shiny or gloss. Any reason you did not go for a black gloss roof? Are you really happy about it?

How did you guys mount your spoiler? Did you use the tape called 3m PT1100?

Technically the 'whole roof' is wrapped, what is not are the roof rails. As I mentioned in your other thread, wrapping the roof rails did not look OEM to me as the latches present a problem (if you wrap over them you will see their contours, and if you cut around them you will see the creases around the corners). I originally thought I would hate having them in white, but with the black/white transitions as seen in the first picture I posted a coupe posts above ^^^ it looks good IMO and exceeded my expectations. If I find a totaled Jet Black 1-series in a junk yard I may just get the 2 roof rails off that, but I would rather leave them white rather than wrapped in a way that you can see from a far it is a wrap.

On your second question - the wrap is actually not a dull matt wrap, it actually has a clear coat over it and has a sheen. It is the 3M Scotchprint, but I didn't see a high-gloss option, and this seemed pretty good. Also, keep in mind the CF wrap is very thick, making the wrapping of roof rails even a trickier task. So you will have to find a thinner gloss black wrap for the rails and hope it matches well in its gloss/reflective characteristics. Here is a crappy iPhone pic, the light reflects quite a lot off the film.

BTW, even the Revozport real CF roof does not come with the roof rails, so you will either have to repaint yours, or get them in jet black car.

Yes, I used 3M tape. BMW uses something called Betalink, part # 82699408866

There are many different 3M tapes so would be really interested to know if anyone know which one they used? According to 3M in Sweden I should use the one called 3m PT1100 as that is made for fitting things on modern cars. Its made for fit on car paint and resistant to cold, wet, hot, washing etc. But again love to hear what tape others have used. 3M have like 40-50 tapes for fitting stuff. ;-)
