I had downpipes before a tune. I wasn't sure what tune I wanted but knew I wanted to remove at least the primary cats. I initially used a first generation BMW DP fix. Later I had to change to a newer generation adjustable fix. Then I went with a Procede for a while and now I have a flash tune which also requires the BMW DP fix. These fixes do not require soldering, you follow their directions and plug them into the ECU wiring system.

You won't damage your car driving without the fix. Mainly the CEL light will annoy you. Depending on your stock ECU program your car might act up a little a mile or so after cold starts when it tries to self clear the CEL.

Hi guys,

I apologize ahead of time if this is a noob question.

Got catless DP installed (with JB4 Stage 2 + axle back) and got an SES a few 3 days later. Is this the same as the CEL light? I don't see any engine icon on the instrument cluster so I'm thinking that the SES also doubles as a CEL. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Just wanted to make sure that it's probably due to the catless DP.

I checked the onboard service schedule and I'm not due for anything anytime soon.

Thanks for your help!

Probably. Did you turn the auto code clear on that the JB4 uses? Did you try reading the code with the JB4?

Thanks for the response!

I had autoclear off and drove probably around 60-70 miles or so before that SES came on. I wanted to see if it would throw a code (I read on the forums some people never got codes for some reason), but i was wondering if the catless DP code shows up as an SES.

I stupidly forgot that category 1 + option 2 clears the code (for some reason I thought it was read) and so it removed it. When I got back home, I tried reading the code but there was nothing now (probably because I deleted it lol).

There were no drivability issues noticed as well.
