As quoted by Business Week in the thread “135i in Business Week”
The 1 Series came out in the U.S. last spring and, so far, BMW has only sold 9,280 of them. There were threads on this forum where numbers like 10,000 total 1 series and 2,500 of them were 135i’s for 08.

not many
Just stopped in my dealer to pick up some accessories...saw my CA, told me he could count all the 1's sold by their store on one hand, this is coming from the largest BMW dealer in Ohio. I love my SGM, space grey looks too much like VW's United Gray...

Once all the early adopters and enthusiasts buy their 1's I would expect the balance to shift more heavily towards selling more 128's of both types due to the the price. The word was that they were also planning to increase the NA allocation in coming years but don't expect it to go anywhere near the massive number of 3's sold each year anytime soon. Yep. There's what, ~340 BMW dealers in the US to distribute those 10k cars? If everyone had an equal allocation it would be just under 5 cars per month per dealer for the ~6 months it was out in '08. Once you account for dealer demos and OH being a much smaller BMW market than either of the coasts I could easily imagine them only receiving 1-2 cars per month. |
