BMW123d - where to fill up diesel in Sydney

Hi everyone, this may appear to be a stupid question to some, but I am new to the world of diesel !

I recently bought a 123d and went to Caltex to fill up diesel.

Evidently there are 2 sizes of nozzles - a large one for trucks, which patently does not fit in the car. There was also a smaller size nozzle, but this is not large enough to make contact with the metal poles in the fuel mouth, which would then force the metal flap open. The smaller nozzle appears to be the same size as the standard petrol nozzles. BTW I was filling up with Caltex Vortex Diesel.

My question is, where do you fill up in Sydney Metro? Do they have 24mm diesel nozzles available? If not, am I able to install a fuel adapter for the BMW that enables me to fill up with the 21mm diesel nozzle which seems to be more promiment than the 24mm diesel nozzles?

Cheers!

Wait wtf? The nozzle at Caltex didn't fit your car? That's quite strange. I know my dad in his diesel X6 can fill up at any petrol station in Sydney. He usually does Caltex with no problems whatsoever.

The big one is for trucks, so the smaller one is the right nozzle.

I've noticed two nozzle sizes:

1) A smaller size from bio-diesel days. This is labelled as diesel but they have retained the bio-diesel sized nozzle.
2) The "normal car" size.

For some bizarre reason a lot of service stations still have no. 1 on their diesel pumps and it is really quite problematic. I've found no way of forcing my 123d to accept the pump either.

I've never noticed any issues when filling up my X5 ... which suburbs are you having these problems?

I have only tried around the Mascot area - both Shell normal Diesel and Caltex Vortex Diesel (as regular diesel was not available at this Caltex).

Happy to drive to a location within 10 kms of the CBD as I drive alot of kms anwyay.

Mate around lower north shore area .. never come across dirty diesel pumps or different sized diesel nozzles. after reading other's experiences I'm starting to think I am lucky!

I've only ever had issues with places having the over-sized nozzles. You very quickly learn to identify them by sight, the correct size ones generall have a slightly machined tip to be exactly the right size to disengage the interlocks on the filler.

I know of a few of the oops-we-forgot-to-change-nozzles-even-though-it-is-no-longer-bio-diesel and they are usually in BP servos. There's one in Manly and amusingly directly across the road is a Caltex with normal nozzles.

Hmmm... hope that bio-diesel nozzle virus hasn't hit Melbourne. Will know in a few weeks, I guess.
Cheers,
Alf

I notice you're in Frankston - I'm in Seaford (and coincidentally, our other car is an MX5)

The only place vaguely around here that I've had an issue at is the BP just near Moorabbin Airport (Boundary Rd/Lower D'nong Rd I think).
Most Caltex's are OK, though some have high-flow nozzles which are generally well labelled. The Shell in Frankston itself is OK, as is the BP on Frankston/D'nong Rd, and the Caltex on Hall Rd.
I think that covers a decent few in the area
