Willowbank Test n Tune

Hi guys,

Its late notice but I'm going to the Willowbank Drag Races on Wednesday (11 May 2011) with my brother in law.

Feel free to come along if your free, should be good with the cold snap we're having!

As usual, $40 entry, gates open at 4pm, I'll be getting there about 5:30 or so

Will let you know, has his new clutch and will be running with a set of the stock 19's (instead of 20's). Wanted to get a set of drag radials or semi slicks but never got around to it.

Wants to crack the 11's (I doubt he'll get there...) and if he doesn't will be buying drag radials and a nitrous system...

In his case I think it's a matter of putting the power down because he will easily good for 11's with that kind of power. Nitrous is just crazy! I think drag radials will be the way to go though but the trap speeds will tell the whole story anyway.

last night it was like 8 degrees where I am so that means it would be closer to 0 at willowbank! all the turbos would have loved that.

But the track temperature wouldn't do your traction any favours.

Temperature was 12 degress on track last night! Wasn't what I'd call busy, but more cars than the last time we went. No longer than a 5 min wait.

Went ok, got a new PB of 12.873 (tune only), and was consistently running high 12's (only got one 13.1 second pass).

As MrBlonde stated, traction was a major issue! Tyres would spin all the way through 1st! Was ready to get rid of my S-Drive straight away but after speaking with a few other guys they said the same thing, that traction is a problem when it gets colder.

Trap speed was slightly higher at 178km/h, will have to get my other mods installed soon!

Overall a good night, smashed a Mercedes AMG SLK55 (he ran a 13.4)

PS Phill still ran on his 20" wheels in his VE ute, got a 13.088 so still needs to get more suitable rims/tyres because he was spinning through 1st & 2nd.

hmmm all this traction talk is getting me worried especially because I have the S drives and some guys over at N54tech are saying they are no good for the drags. Did you try launching in 2nd? I think its time to look at some semi slicks.

Didnt try launching in 2nd actually.

Even tried Map 1 instead of Map 2, but spinning was just as bad and ended up getting the 13.1.

Semi Slicks and an LSD are on the cards for me, just got to find sizes that will be suitable for the offsets of my Alufelgen CS7's as I already rub over bumps with the S-Drives

Semi slicks are a poor choice for drag racing. They are designed for circuit racing and are constructed with a stiff sidewall for lateral performance (cornering). The stiff sidewall is a poor performance option for drag racing where you want a tall and soft sidewall to absorb the powertrain shock on the hit and transform the energy into a large contact patch.

I forgot what tune your running Michael but I have my max boost in 1st gear set to 10psi as this is a feature with the JB4, I am sure Procede would have a similar feature so I will be trying this next time I hit the drags and it will be interesting to see if it makes a difference when launching.

Nice time Michael, good effort. What were your 60ft's?

Also, what trap speeds did your brother get? Those 20s have to go lol!

By the way, do you recall the plates on the slk55? Any vids?

I have JB4, so will definitely look into that, just need to find my USB cable!

No vids, was only me and Phil that went.

Have the timeslips at home so will update you on that, from memory the 60ft was 2.02X.

Phil's trap speed was slightly less at 176km/h. From a roll his car is faster than mine at the moment, its just getting it to the ground is a problem with those wheels!
