Motul MoCOOL vs. Water Wetter

Just installed Cobb and want to protect the engine from the additional load. FMIC isn't in the works until next year, so for now I just want to upgrade coolant. I have noticed my oil temps have creeped up about 10 degrees on the track over the last year, so I suspect a coolant flush would help. I live in Orlando and my car is garaged overnight, so I very rarely see subfreezing temperatures. I think an 80-20 blend of distilled water and coolant will be a good solution.

I've seen also seen two products mentioned that I am interested in - Motul MoCOOL and Water Wetter. If I use Water Wetter, I should just add the bottle on top of the 80-20 blend. If I use MoCOOL, it is not an additive and is the coolant itself that is the 20 in the blend. Is this correct?

Also, from personal experience of other track junkies - which is the better solution between MoCOOL and Water Wetter?

Thanks!

I use Mocool. it's no magic bullet but it'll help a few degrees. I just topped off my coolant with a bottle. FMIC won't do anything to keep your temps down. you need an upgrade oil cooler to start and go from there. I also have the oil cooler but still see the temps up there. may have to go with a upgrade radiator next year. welcome to the world of limp mode.

ps. I also use motul 300v 5-40 race oil which helps with temps a bit as well

Mocool is an additive like Water Wetter. You're supposed to use 5% Mocool with either 95% pure water or any mixture up to 47.5% water/47.5% antifreeze.

Over at e90post forum, some people are recommending Mocool or Water Wetter on top of 70/30 water/antifreeze. The point of the antifreeze is that it has a higher boiling point than water.

Thanks guys... not sure why I was thinking FMIC would help oil temps. Wasn't thinking I guess.

Next question: what color should my coolant be? Mine is a very dark green. Take a look at the picture please. It is clear, but wasn't sure if it should be this dark. Often times dark fluids means it's time for a flush after all.

Thanks!

That is a normal coolant color. OE coolant is a dark green/blue color. Buy a liter of BMW coolant from your dealer to confirm it.

BMW OE fill coolant...

Thanks for the helpful info guys. Wanted to report back that I used a turkey baster to remove as much of the BMW 50/50 mixture as I could (got about 2 L out), poured in a bottle of Water Wetter, and topped back off with straight distiller water. Oil temps are down about 10 degrees under normal driving conditions... Topping out at 230. Very pleased! Haven't tracked it yet, but I will report back after I do. Simple and worthwhile mod for sure!
