M3 Front upper+lower control arms $100's less than normal!

so in reading the thread ' E81- M3 E93 anti-roll bar and rear subframe bushings installed- REPORT!"

it was mentioned that a company 'trw' makes the M3's control arm items

any truth to this?

so far in googling, it seems like it to me, and at half the cost of any vendors 'm3 upgrade kit' .. well LESS than half the cost.. closer to a third of the cost..

this could be a huge find

thanks for any input.

For m3 front upper and lower, shipped to my door is about $750 (599ish no shipping)

So.. Yeah cheaper

If trw tuly is oem manuf, that means the bushings ARE m3 bushings anyway

And even an upgrade (i'd go powerflex) still comes out cheaper than straight m3

I'll check out all those links after work tonight though lol

Ed: jut had a google for '31 10 2 283 575' everything inicates it's an oem m3 replacement part made by trw

Another question.. The m3 lower control arm is totally different and adds camber.. The upper (tension rod) is different too, correct? Not just in the bushings? Ie, it's stronger etc and worth replacing for that too?

I guess it is what you pay for, the added feel good of having ///M stamped

TRW bushings look identical to m3 parts, both have red and green "washers"/seals

only for the control arm, everything else seems static.

Maybe RE bushings are priced okay, or other brand like AKG racing

Yes the lower wishbone adds camber.

the upper control arm may be just made to be lighter and stronger vs stock. I really don't know.

This is an interesting thread.

I recently looked at the M3/1M alloy suspension parts. They are really light units. Strong but light. Much more so than what our cars came with! I know I am gonna have to go with these M3 bits sooner or later.

Do you want to dig around for Euro prices for the TRW items above?

Also can you comment on the difference between these brands of OEM parts found on http://seekpart24.com/bmw/3-coupe-e9...ar-100017?lp=1

Metzger<- - usually listed cheaper than TRW, but images and refs point to simple 3 series parts

Lemforder<- - seems to have replacement m3 steering links, but that is all

Febi Bilstien<- - has some rear control arm components, but parts do not match up in realoem

TRW<- - reviewed to be on par if not more reputable than Meyle / Meyle HD. e34/e39 and e46/e36 guys have used their control arm parts. Have not seen any bad reviews for German cars. Some USA cars had issues maybe because of made in china items

from OEMbimmerparts

Subtotal:
$ 374.90
Shipping:
$ 162.04
Duty / Tax / Processing:
$ 47.61
Order Total:
$ 584.55

to australia, TRW front control arm and tension rod - BUT it's not listed as 'trw' it says 'oem' but is made by TRW, this sounds good to me?

the cheapest i've been able to find elsewhere that will ship directly here was more like $749 shipped

$225 saving! (though you don't get the headlight adjuster rods, no matter since i don't have adaptive headlights ) - and a quick google tells me that 'oembimmerparts' is a legit site (results from other BMW forums mainly)

done!

Here is Canada using OEMbimmerparts

Shipping:
$ 121.10
Duty / Tax / Processing:
$ 132.57
Order Total:
$ 628.57

Some savings, can be used for a sway bar, used DISA, tune, etc.

I think shipping will make or break this path, comparing costs without shipping will not do much.

where does that site list swaybars?
i even searched for sway bars, no dice

heck, how can you get a used DISA or a tune from oembimerparts :/

also

Quote:
They are OEM as stated in the listing, OEM means original equipment manufacutre, Which means they are made by the same company that makes them for bmw. In this case TRW. Yes they do include the bushing as well.

That was me talking to my self Saying that the 200+ or so saved can be used else where. LOL

Btw check http://www.ecstuning.com/
they have TRW branded m3 arms too

And let us know what vendor you will use, the shipping cost is what I worry the most about. I usually get a customs fee anywhere between 15-20%

as in the other thread, ECS has much cheaper shipping, as well as stocking the headlight levelling arm
