I love my 135 so I would sign my wife up if it were free, not for a lease.

I really don't understand BMW's thinking here. The 2012 ActiveE obviously feeds into the pure-electric 2013 i3, but then they're developing the i8 as a plug-in hybrid (PiH). They seem to see PiH as a performance option and pure-electric as a daily driver, but that makes no sense in the American marketplace. I know the company is European, but they've always seemed to show such brilliance at understanding the American driver, so I don't understand why they're so far off the mark here. ActiveE/i3 should be PiH.

I'd be all for it, to act as a test owner and collect data to be used in the company's electric car development. Totaly!

Oh.....oh I have to PAY for the right to beta test an unfounded drivetrain?

I HAVE TO PAY HOW MUCH A MONTH TO BETA TEST A DRIVETRAIN?

Shame you're not doing this Down Under. It'd be a great opportunity for some excellent exposure, and I'd be all for it.

a hell of a lot less than it would be to buy a new car. and you arent paying for fuel so your fuel savings over the course of 2 years balance it out so it becomes almost free

Your still paying to be a test driver. And you gotta pay for that electricity too, which at least is cheap still (wait until electric cars reach a high percentage of penetration.)

If I got the option to buy the car it would be more reasonable, but the car just goes away. Like the EV-1 it just seems like they don't have a fully squared away product.

So it really does seem like you're paying to Guinea Pig for a test mule program.

It's a little arrogant to me.

ehhh. at least you admit it.

And its going away for the same reason that the EV-1 and the Mini E did. They dont plan on making spare parts for it so under US law they arent allowed to sell them.

Which I always felt was a stupid thing. What if I sign some kind of I know the risks so let me keep the car form?

I hate it when the government babies me.

Im just saying that reletively speaking the car will be next to free. Especially for my pops, whose current daily is a 302 Mountaineer.
