My poor car... water damage

Well, you may recall my car got flooded due to the sunroof/windows malfunctioning (http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7542). BMW has refused to accept any responsibility so my insurance took care of it (thank god for insurance).

Basically everything from the dash to the trunk is getting replaced. Both front seats, the back seats, the door panels, the carpetting and the center console.

Total cost: $10550 (of which I pay $250).

The even CRAPPIER part ... it is going to take my dealership TWENTY-FIVE DAYS to do the repair!

So by the end of the repair my car will have been in the shop longer than it has been out of it

Ouch, time to start parking it under cover until they figure out the electrical glitch that opened everything up ... I have a feeling one more claim and your insurance is going to drop you like a rock.

That's awful, man. Feel for you.

Maybe they will make one of these for the e90 at some point, so that whether it's a technical glitch or someone accidentally sits on their key, it will close the windows if it rains...

http://www.tvonnav.com/iwindows.html

Quote:
iRain Sensor Information:
With the iRain Sensor, when the vehicle is turned off, if rain is sensed on the iRain sensor the iWindows module will put up all the windows and sunroof. The windows roll up 1/3 at a time with 10 seconds in between for safety. The iRain sensor is not active when the vehicle is on. iWindows modules WILL NOT come preinstalled with rain sensor code and connectors. You must either purchase the iRain Sensor at the time or purchase, or purchase the iRain Sensor Prewiring/Code addition for $10. By purchasing the iRain Sensor Prewiring/Code, you can purchase the iRain sensor later for $99.

The window thing happened to me, too

About a week or so after I saw your original post, I had the windows/sunroof mysteriously open themselves while I was inside my house. At the time, my fob was in my pants pocket. I've concluded that the unlock button must have gotten pressed and held while in my pocket (and while in range of my E90). Fortunately, though, it was not raining at the time. Sorry to hear about the extensive damage to your car. I don't keep the fob in my pants pocket anymore . . .

Meatnog, it really sucks, but at least you got them to take care of the damage. Did you claim through your insurance, therefore you have to pay 250 (deductible). If BMW is responsible for the damage, why did you have to pay?

Sorry again about your troubles! I had a feeling that everything would have to be replaced (if you'll recall, and a little "told you so" to the guys that said 'just dry it out'). Water damage is a killer.

I empathize with you, when my car was 5 days old (E90) it was rear ended and I was without it for a long time. The best advice I can give is to bide your time well, try not to obsess. When you get her back it will be like having a new car all over again. I know it's easier to say that than to do it... but I do understand how you feel.

Very best of luck - and may she be good as new!

Yeah, the dealership is being cool and I have a new X3 loaner. I'd rather have my E90, but it is better than the $25/day car I'd get through GEICO.

And yeah, placing it through my insurance company because BMW won't accept responsibility for it.

Oh, and I talked to the dealership about putting in the cold weather package backseat too, but they said it'd cost more to put it in than it would have been to get new. Like $2000 to put it in because the seat doesn't fit in the same as the non-cold weather package seat.

Ah well, I still regret not getting that dang package.

Wouldn't it be poetic justice that if, toward the end of the 25 day estimated repair time, the malfunction occurred again while in BMW possession, exposed to rain and the elements. It'd suck to not have your car that much longer, but at least they'd have to acknowledge the problem and get to the bottom of the reason why it happened in the first place.
Good luck with everything. Enjoy the X3 while you have it. (I've been driving a loaner X3 manual for almost a week now, same as another guy, I think Longtran.)

I know the car is not a total lost, but just like to ask,
How will this show up in the car history, when someone does a carfax report?
Maybe it would be prudent to call and ask the car insurance now, than later, to get a general feel.

Go to the local DMV get a flooded title and end the lease. If you lease with BMW FS you should have GAP protection.

Yes, I recall your painful story.
I thought USA automobile industry has the greatest customer service attitude.

Damn it. It would probably just cost BMW $10K to build a new E90 and it is absoluetly no way that BMW does not take one single bit of responsibility for that rubbish doors problem ?

I suggest you go for legal advice and BMW will have to compensate you for that whole month of down time! And, at least they will have to add 2 more years free warranty on your car.

I cannot claim the car was flooded, it was only cosmetic damage.

Nothing will show up on Carfax because it was only costmetic damage.

I cannot get BMW to pay for anything, I am lucky they are even giving me a loaner (X3 > $25/day loaner through GEICO).

I have a lease, so frankly, I couldn't care less about the Carfax either

I leased through P&W BMW on Baum Blvd, they've been excellent, but they have no sway with corporate on this claim. They believe me, corporate says they can't find any evidence, therefore it is not their fault (damn convenient, eh?)

Thats terrible.

One word of warning -> if you sue BMW, they'll probably take out the convinence openin function - just like they took out the convinience closing function in the states!
