Long Island 135's
so i have been looking to get a 135, test drove one the other day, all stock and it just didn't feel that quick. i was wondering if anyone who has has a tuned or fbo one would be willing to take me for a spin. i am out in suffolk county down by hecksher state park in east islip. currently have a 2007 passat fbo that i've had since new and i think its time to upgrade. thinking of sedona red 135 msport. i might post this on the e90 forum too since the engines are the same, just a little heavier.

You might have test drove a heavily carbon'd up example. Test drive another? There are quite a few folks with modded 1s in LI.

it was a black 2011 135 non m sport from habberstad in bay shore, 6 speed, maybe it was just too smooth, i have a stage 2+ fbo 2.0t in my passat that i would guess is around 270 crank hp 290 tq, maybe im just used to the boost spike. that and i have never owned a rwd car before, tracked mine at lime rock a few times. just want to be sure im making the right move.

Yeah something doesn't seem right to me either. I came from a Stage 2+ Legacy GT putting down 275awhp/300awtq (300awtq from 3000-4500 rpm), and my PPK1 135i 6MT would walk it pretty easily. Mind you, the LGT would hit a lot harder and feel like it was as fast/faster due to it being a small peaky single turbo, but the N54 has a much larger area under the curve and delivers it's power for such a wide rpm range that it wouldn't be close. But like you said, it's sometimes hard to feel how much more power a car has when it's delivery is as smooth as the N54 especially coming from peaky single turbo cars like we have.
edit: Just realized that the OP test drove an N55 1er. Not that it's makes that much difference stock vs stock, just curious as to what the OP's power goals are.

These cars are faster than they feel I find. So much low end torque, and the power does not really build, and you can't wind them out forever or the power falls off. I have driven Civics with similar power levels, and it just felt so much faster because of the huge spike in power when the motor really gets on cam/boost.

id really like that. im trying to decide whether or not to try to pull the trigger before the end of the month with the 0.9% financing. its a 2011 135i msport dct, 44000 miles cpo, just nervice that the cpo waranty expires december 2016. also i wonder if prices will drop more as time goes by. i really dontneed a car now, i planned on waiting until september.

I thought the same thing when I test drove my 2010 135i. The tq curve is amazing.
The cobb stage1 tune was very noticeable, but still not the same as my old turbo civic. I say go for it, I just bought mine 3 weeks ago. Simmons

It doesn't feel that fast compared to other cars with similar HP - I've owned a few. It's not really until you look at the speedometer after shifting into fourth gear that you comprehend what's just happened. Get a convertible.

I'd suggest test driving an N54 135i. When I was shopping around for one, I test drove cpo N55's from the dealerships along with stock and tuned N54's from private sellers. Stock vs stock, the N54's just felt like it had more ooomph.
Also, if you're planning to go FBO mods why not go for an 08' or 09' in the low 20s? On the other hand, if you're intentions are just a tune and axle-back, then it's understandable to go with something newer and with more warranty left. I just think the dealer prices of 28-31k from what I saw last month is a lot for a 2011. |

I can take you for a spin too if you don't mind my (currently) filthy interior. I'm always on the south shore.
