I agree that the new mirrors on the 2010 are ugly. Properly adjusted, I have no issue with my 2009 mirrors. And they look significantly better.

I found the demo rides with the 09 mirrors to be difficult to get a good rearview from the side mirrors, so I - for one - am glad to see them a bit larger on the 2010s.

the 08-09 mirrors do look better. But......the visibility does suck, especially when parking and looking for curbs.
does anyone know of any good blind spot, stick on mirrors that dont make me look my grandfather driving his fleetwood brougham? |

Here is a good article on properly adjusting mirrors. Many drivers can see the sides of their car while driving, which means they have blind spots.

This is correct. I spoke with someone at BMW who said that the mirrors on the LCI 3er sedan received bigger mirrors, but the coefficient of drag was not affected due to the way they are shaped. With that said, the new mirrors don't look anywhere near as sleek as the older ones.

^- This. If you can see the driver immediately behind you from your side view mirrors while in traffic you do not have your mirrors set correctly.

The article has it right. This is also the way BMW professional driver training teaches to set the mirrors. Rule of thumb, if you can see the sides of your car while in your normal driving position, then you most likely have blind spots when driving where you will not be aware of a car on either side of you at your 4-5 or 7-8 o'clock position. This article gives a good method for adjusting side mirrors to avoid this problem. |

I would much rather just put one of those fisheye mirror things on than have those dumbo ears on my car. They took a nice sleek, sporty mirror and replaced it with grandma's sedan mirrors.
If you really need the bigger mirror, this is a great option for you but they definitely detract from the sporty lines of the 1er |
