UPDATED I-6, 3.0L, Dual Weber Carbs!?!

Thought I would show off my wife's new project car, so far we have a new hood and quarter panels to put on, a set of classic 70's Alpina wheels, and all new brakes. Working on switching over to fuel injection on this 3.0L inline 6 (OH YEAH!!!) and generally getting ready for paint...

But this is how it looks right now...

More to come,

Jon

It is a 1972 Bavaria. It's essentially a 2800 only lighter (due to lack of less options as it was intended to undercut Mercedes' prices of the day) This particular model was a US only model never sold even in Germany. It had the 2.8L until they switched in 72 to the 3.0L we all know and love. This car brought BMW back from bankruptcy, yet no one knows about it. Therefore this is my tribute to the mark I love the most...

We are planning on doing a matte black murdered out look, no chrome, just maybe a bit of flash with the wheels...a picture is attached...I found a set I just must have on there and they are going to be amazing...not to mention worth as much as the car. LOL

This is the predacessor to the almighty 5-series...and believe me when I say that after almost 40 years it still handles like a BMW...

Awesome, good luck with the project! Are you going to make this a full blown build progress thread?

The wheels in the picture are the CS wheels, I believe. Think carefully about replacing them as they are forged, but you may want to sopin them up and measure balance and runout to ensure they still meet OEM speicfications.

Putting a later DOHC 3.5L would certainly make it more drivable, as would upgraded brakes. But if it were mine, I would not change too much of the classic exterior look of the car. It is very rare these days.
Thanks for the advice, we are keeping all of the original trim pieces, and not doing anything to the body but restoring it to it's former glory. I do have the steel wheels, 2 sets in fact just in case, and have not (soon as I get a day off work) yet measured for the Csi wheels. I'm just hoping they will go at this point. I have looked into the 3.5L but as this engine just needs some cleaning up, and the VIN still matches, I don't have the heart at the moment to replace it. If I did I would def keep it for later use. The brakes are a stock size, but upgraded rotors and pads. They actually work VERY well and have less than 500 miles on them. It's all cosmetic right now.
