Just wondering, do you have a stock axle back and or downpipes? Would you be willing to post a sound clip? I'm interested in doing this mod married either to aftermarket downpipes, or hallowing out the cats on my stock downpipes. I'm trying to keep the noise level low on this car for the wife but don't really want to leave all this easy power on the table.

Oh dayum that sounds good. I'm wondering if there is any reason to go with the axle back if the midpipes are installed? As I see it there are three potential reasons to make the change. 1) less weight. 2) More/better sound 3) More free flowing.

At this point the weight savings isn't that important to me. The sound of the midpipes alone is more than enough for me. The last item is what I'm curious about. Can you give us a little insight? Will a Burger or Cobb (etc) tuned car make appreciably more power with Berk midpipes and free flowing axle back compared to just midpipes and stock axleback? It seems like there may be a point of diminishing returns.

The N55 135i midpipe is a catless version of the N54 midpipe that our cars have. Essentially its a secondary cat delete with a resonator.

You are taking out restriction in the exhaust system and more power is made. During the 3 weeks we spent at GIAC we saw gains with the mid pipe, but we didn't take note of it since it is merely to remove some of the restriction and for better sound.

There will be a new 3" mid pipe for the 1M very soon as well!

2.5" taper from Dp's into 3"? or 3" downpipes all the way thru?

Yeah we'll need a new DP option to work with 3" mids.

Will the 1M mid pipe work seamless with the N55?

Anyone dyno'd their car after the swap? Is it legal in any states?

Thanks for the information Sal!
Just wondering if Euro versions (as mine is) have the same setup as US cars (which benefit from this mod)?

I'm assuming the exhausts are the same. I could be wrong though.

Yes, the sound is a little louder sans cats.

It 'sounds' like the n55 mids will add a bit of sound. The Berks on the other hand add a symphony of turbo charged terror. I am strongly leaning towards the Berks with stock axle back.

OE or aftermarket DP will both work with the new 3" mid pipe, that is what they are shooting for anyway. It's going to be another modular system where you can buy the mid, the rear section or as a complete system.

We have tried that too since that idea was kicked around a bit. For stealth it's great, but the gain is sound is minimum when compared to the Berk.

how risky would changing the mids to an n55 be for voiding the warranty if we're just swapping the mid out and sticking on an axle back? thanks.

You wont void warranty... I had straight pipes on my 135 and an aftermarket axleback

Had car to dealer without any mention. N55 Mid pipes still have resonator just missing secondary cats which would probably go unnoticed since there is no error code and further forward. If asked, I would tell them that the stock system made a terrible drone.
