Instead of an M2 or M4, try to get and old E30 M3; together with the 1M, at least for me, are the best couple.

No expensive track cars for me, I have a great Spec E46 race car. M4 GTS is going to be in that garage next to 1M. None of you guys have changed my mind. Especially you guys proposing older BMW's.

I can see why you don't want an 'older' car experience as you've owned them before. People like me have NOT owned them before though.....so there is still novelty in an E30 M3 or a 2002 Turbo for us |

Also of note: To many people - myself included - driving a slow car fast is inherently more fun than driving a fast car slow.

I owned two E30 m3 over 17 Years so at this point in time.. I prefer a newer car. I would still love to own a genuine sport Evo in Jet Black, even though I had a lot of fun with 2.5L S14s of my own. Love the spec E46 race car. Cheap clean reliable fun. E46 is the new /E30. I love my 1M. I have looked at the 2 series and not sure I could make the switch unless for M2 CSL. A Cayman GT4 would be amazing but simply is out of my reach. I would definitely stretch for an M2 CSL if it came in under 75K. And then I would definitely have to sleep in it. .. Although perhaps not as desirable from a value perspective, The M4 GTS is unique and will be much more rare than a 911 GT3. It's also a car that is more streetable and more of an every day car. what would your primary use be for the M4 GTS? I imagine therein lies the answer to.. " why not GT3" |

But a fast well balanced car is a think of beauty! My use for a M4 GTS? Likely the same as my 1M which has 10k miles on it. Sunny day driver for sure. Fast sprint drives on the weekend and something to drive to VIR for pro races. But also I see the day coming when I don't race anymore and all I wanna do is really fast laps with other gentlemen drivers at Chin events. Already too many GT3's at those events! I want something special!

great rant and agree with all but the part about the " ditching of driving pleasure" If you think there is no driving pleasure to be had in a modern BMW... Actually... you also should change your line to " precise, non mechanical electric steering" .. I agree that the the first generation of BMW electric steering may have been numb,... however the steering on the M2 and M4 and cars like the Porsche Cayman is almost always described as very precise... very good feedback... just there is no mechanical heft to it.. I don't think I have heard reviewers use the term numb in quite a while... Last edited by M3 Adjuster; 11-11-2015 at 09:48 AM.. |

LOL. I have been to Road Atlanta several times... and now that we have COTA here in Texas.. the upper run groups at every DE are chock full of 911 variants! It's nice to have a unique car in the paddock! Totally agree! |

All cars mentioned here are great; I been driving the 1M with akrapovic complete exhaust; it is a complete beast; however...the M3 E30, of course much even, more slower is THE CAR.
Both are great for my purpose, driving on freeways and some track events during the year. |
