got this done last week... the new dash looks really good, however, i noticed that the leather around the back of the steering column is torn on the right side, and in daylight, i can actually see wiring inside... this was most definitely due to the tech dismantling/reassembling something incorrectly, causing the leather to tear... now i have to call the SA back and explain and hope they will replace it without a hassle... i most certainly dont wanna get hit with this damage when i go to turn the car in at lease end... honestly, i dont understand the shoty worksmanship... if a tech damages something, fix it the first time... dont try to deceive me by thinking ill never notice it.. i expect higher standards from BMW

mine is just starting to show. so no matter what dealer, they will all give you the storage bin one? I'd like to have the storage bin over nothing I think. THey are replacing my center armrest for rattles and I am getting the one with one larger compartment instead of the one with the two small ones that preset for the phone adapter (that's what the pn indicates) and I am very happy about that

the dealer is giving me a run around. I told them of my indentation, and all the SA/ technician saw the indentation. So they schedule me to come back in to get it fixed with no rental offered. So i went to the dealer a few days and the service manager saw the indentation and said it was normal. So he told the SA to go around to confirm that it is in the new 1 series. Obviously we walked around looking at all the 1 series and there was no air bag indentation. So they told me to come back again when they know when the bmw rep comes in by calling them. (my friends told me that all dealers know exactly hen they show up is that true?) So now they schedule me to go back again with no guarantee to fix it. Has anyone gone through all these steps to get that fixed? It took nearly 2 months and yet my dash is not fixed. Should i even go back to the dealer? by the way it is BMW of monrovia and the SA was greg, with the viral infection all over his face. FYI: if you had to go to this dealer, find Brook, she is actually the one that takes care of things with some personal skills. All the rest are just useless.

I recently tagged along when a friend of mine was looking at a used 2005 Land Rover LR3. I guess BMW owned Range Rover back then?
Imagine my surprise when I got in the passenger side of the LR3 and it had the same airbag indentation as my 1 series. What's worse... the dash was starting to split open/separate along the crease of the indentation. Too bad I didn't have my phone so I could take a picture. Probably a sign of things to come for those who plan on keeping their 1-series for a long time (unless BMW comes up with a real fix). |

It will be interesting to see if the 2010's develop the same indentation.

I've decided that I'm gonna get a new dash every summer for the remainder of my warranty. So that's 3 more to go!

So I took my car in for service today and pointed out the cracking roundel on the driver side airbag along with the passenger airbag dash indentation. The dealer changed the oil on my car but refused to fix the roundel and indentation issues because it's not severe enough to justify the cost.

I had taken mine to one of the bmw dealers in the city here last summer for a few things, and the dash was one of them. the idiot sa tried to tell me it was a "design characteristic" of the 1 series. he said he looked at the others on the lot, and they all had it. I tried to tell him that it had developed over time, but he wasnt hearing it.
It wasnt a huge issue to me, so I dealt with it. Took it to the other bmw dealer here last week for service, and pointed it out to them. They called me back within an hour to tell me that it was certainly not supposed to be like that, and could be replaced under warranty. I had them find out if it would be the dash with the storage bin or not (which it will have to be) and have held off on the switch. They said at any time before the warranty expires it can be changed, so take my time to make up my mind. Ill probably end up doing it at some point, but it boggles me how some dealerships tell you one thing, and others actually care and find out from bmw before running off at the mouth.

I would think that is a 'dealer' response...
