M3 control arms question help!
The @stig will probably answer first lol but I purchased wheels that are 17x7.5 et38 sqaure setup, I paired the wheels up with BFG rivals 225/45/17 not they run a little wider then PSS. Anyways I was debating on the m3 control arms I hold off till I find a perfect sultuion for my route I want to go. I was reading the make the front width of the car a little wider but also adds negative .75 degrees of camber. I'm worried that if I get those m3 front control arms I will rub terribly because it makes the front wider. I'm lowered on H&R sport springs, not the super sports those are too low for my liking. Will it work if I get the m3 control arms and pull the pin out for negative camber or should I stick with Dinan camber plates, and add negative camber that way without making the front track width a little wider? I was trying to figure out if my wheels will be as close to the fender as a 17x8 et40 wheel. I'm was thinking it was close since my wheels are only 17x7.5 instead of 8 and it's et38.

Can you post the source to the wider front track when adding M3 control arms? I installed the M3 front control arms on my 135i several months ago and AFAIK it only added negative camber.

I think it just makes the (lower)control arm length a little longer - to give you more Neg camber. So the bottom of the wheel might sit out a few mm's but the top will stay (close ?) to the same. Thats how you get more Neg camber.

It is simple geometry. If you increase the camber, and the top of the strut stays in the same place, the track has to be a little wider. You are pushing the bottom of the tire further out.

I run the m3 arms and i have 264's with a 10mm spacer and stock 135i tires all around without rubbing while being lowered on eibach springs.. Though my fenders are pulled and rolled. I think the front 264's are 18x7.5 et 49, so mine are at et39 with the 10mm spacers.
It'll be a close call but some massaging of the fenders/camber plates would definitely clear it up. I don't think the added width of the m3 control arms will hurt you since they add more camber where it would rub at the top of the fenders.

v12's from hankook. 215/245's stock 135i sizes on 264's with 10mm spacers all around. Pulled and rolled fenders like i said. No rubbing at all.

I just got my control arms. From my research the top will shoot in the fender and lower part will extend your track width like someone else previously stated. I'm installing them on Wed this coming week.. I'll let you know..
The rear ones only make the suspension stiffer from the bearing instead of bushing. I have customer toe arms to increase camber in the rear.. However, my car is lowered 1.5 on springs and the fenders are rolled and pulled.. I'll post photos once it is completed if that helps.. |

Okay thanks! And yeah I saw you asking almost the same question. It was in another thread.

I was unsure also.. I have aggressive offsets from factory.. et 50 rear and et 45 front.. 19's.. I had to pull and roll the fender.. Make sure they heat it up and pull it only a little to get 1/8 clearance.
I did the 2 rear arms, and the customer toe link and love the new feeling. I wanted the front but heard from Harold that it will increase the track width which freaked me out. I have already been through 3 sets of wheels to achieve the look I have now which is what I wanted. I hadn't done the alignment from when I did the springs, the e93 sway bar, or the rear arms, so I still had the pins in the front too. I gain some clearance from that and he was telling me that the increase camber would be on the bottom shooting the wheel in the fender and not up at it. After I saw the new amount of clearance, I bought the arms.. I'll have them on Wed and take photos for you to see before and after wheels shots.. |
