VANOS n55

If your car is on the list for the VANOS RECALL. I would go-to your nearest dealer and demand replacement.

I took my car in 2 days ago for PPK1 install, the SA told me he was just going to do the VANOS recall since the car was there. I purchased this car CPO with 29k miles, it now has 30 and change. I have not once had a CEL or any stuttering/shutoff. This is what is REALLY scary. Check out the tech diag:

Unbelievable that BMW would let this ride for this long, I spoke to tech and he said any longer I could have had some serious damage to my motor and absolutely 0 cel's

What does "do the VANOS" mean?

What do you mean by "went through the oilpan"? Wouldn't that make you lose all your oil?

Thanks!

You're the first I've read about getting this recall done. It is strange how all of a sudden a bolt just fell off. I bet it was already off but they only realized it once they actually dropped the oil pain. So who know how long it was sitting in there.

What years does this apply to? How do we know if we need it?

Thanks!

These are not questions with a simple answer. Here's a 164 post thread on that. I'd say happy reading, but it's more like unhappy reading.

Bottom lines. It looks like only 2010-2012s are being recalled, and not all of those. You will only know if your specific car will eventually be recalled when BMW sends you a specific letter.

It may have taken longer than one likes, but from the message at the end of the repair order it looks like BMW stepped up to the plate on this one. Fortunately the OP has a good bit of time left in warranty to see if any other issues develop. Just drive the piss out of it and say a prayer...

Hey, what was your build date? My 2012 was built 9/3/11, or 3 days AFTER the current recall period

@ntsthrilla after all that drama... I think IF I were you... I would be changing my oil and filter in the next ~500 miles. Just to get any little metal bits our of your engine oil. Using one of those Dimple magnetics would be also a good idea.

Is this vanos recall also for N54 engines? It's my understanding the recall only effects N55 engines. ???

Dackel

PS: Thanks for the update and also for cross posting your story/info.

That is a good idea dack. I wanted to make sure I shared the story I bought this car less than two months ago and I found out about the recall 2 weeks ago. I am freaked that my motor had those issues and there was no limp mode or cels

I should be OK then... 2013, with a build date of 9/13. Will certainly keep an eye open for anything from BMW though. My car is a CPO (purchased 6 weeks ago, 3100 miles, 2nd owner)--so I'll be notified if necessary?

Thanks again gang!
