bmw performance vs m

i have the stock beefy steering wheel that comes on the n54 e82, and was looking to maybe get the perfomance wheel. is the performance wheel as beefy or is more like stock m3 wheel, e9x m3 wheel is much skinnier compared to our 135i m sport wheel? would rather stay with the beefier wheel than give that up for some lighting.. thanks any feedback, much appreciated.

Err... you originally posted 2 days ago. Give people some time to respond. Don't start acting like a spoiled brat, this is a free forum where everyone shares their friendly advice on their own time. You want better service, go to BMW and check out the wheels there. Otherwise, lose the attitude. Besides, your question isn't even very clear. I've read it 3 times and I still don't know what you're asking...

god way to be rude....just for that i will not post my response to your question and i could have answered your question having experience with all the wheels....

change your attitude, someone else who feels like it can chime in.

I switched from the sport wheel the performance wheel. They are the same thinkness, but I'm not sure how that compares to the non-sport wheel.

If you dont track the car the wheel is kinda useless. You will never use 3/4 of its functions and honestly if you need lights to tell you when to shift in spirited driving you must be def. Just listen to the engine, it tells you everything you need to know.

its not worth upgrading to the performance wheel if you already have the sports wheel. its not much thicker and its not that cheap. that money could easily be spent elsewhere, like on a performance exhaust!

I switched from the M-sport wheel that came with my '08 135i (sport package) to the Performance Wheel, mostly because I had moved to this car from a Porsche GT3 which was all alcantera. I really hate the 'squishy' feeling of that M wheel, using perforated leather. The thickness of both is similar, although I'd say the bottom and top of the Performance wheel feels a little thicker. The M wheel seemed extra padded at 9 and 3 o'clock.

The bigger difference is the solid, hard feeling of the Performance wheel, and nice grip of the alcantera, versus the odd squishy feel of the M wheel.

As for the functionality, that is something I'm not too sold on. Need to learn it a bit more, especially how to use it for any timing. The shift points are almost silly - the engine makes so much noise over 4000 rpm it is hard to miss, and the lights are blinking red while still having another 2-3000 RPMs left before redline. I realize it is a turbo so no real harm in shifting early, but c'mon - I don't need my wheel blinking like the car is about to explode when I'm closer to the crawl RPM than I am to redline.

btw: I also did the Performance shift knob/boot and parking brake so the alcantara touch points throughout was a nice balance. Not sure I'd have bothered with the wheel without doing those other two.
