Yeah, I haven't seen him post on the M5 board either, where there is a whole lot of activity given the F10 M5 videos released recently:

If so, they might have cancelled the whole Ascari event?
With the first cars already being shipped out and soon delivered to the "happy few" I wonder what SCOTT 26 meant by " within a few weeks???? "

I wouldn't have thought so. These events are used for journos first impressions drives like the snow event for the Audi RS3. The RS3 has also had an event in France for which we are now seeing some videos on You Tube. The RS3 was sold out weeks ago.

I reckon it will still go ahead, though i don't know why BMW are being so tight lipped, it's not like it's a surprise!

Just marketing guys. Scott is nothing more then a marketing machine. He don t care about you and me or a 1 series M or any other model. Now he must make the internet crazy about the new models. A 1 serie M is already forgotten. We have bought already an old car, you all should buy a new 1 series instead. Trade in all youre old 1M everyone and as fast as possible. That is what this people/company want. They want profits and lots of it. They want too earn as much money as possible.

I tell you a wise qoute keep it in youre brains forever.

Everything a human does he does it for himself. That s in 99% of 100% the case.

If scott didn t get paid for it you would not see him here. If mercedes offer him a job which pays more then mercedes is the best car.

They are like car salesman's. Legal criminals!!!!

Forget these guys as fast as possible and enjoy youre car when you get it. Never buy into marketing or salesman talk, buy what YOU think is best.

Bit harsh I'd say - Scott's just trying to do a job.

What does surprise me is that BMW don't seem to care about the negative impact this type of thread is having on their reputation. Whatever the reason why they can't or won't tell us the answer, they should just come out & tell it how it is. Any sort of reply from Scott would probably kill this thread but instead it lurches on, from week to week. Surely. it must be a constant source of irritation?

However you look at it, it's not good marketing!

^ Hence the reason why I even created the thread. It seems the natural progression now is for journalists to get their hands on a production model to truly test it's capabilities and provide us "on order" customers and their reader audience some much needed feedback. We're putting our trust in ordering a car that we can't even test before we buy so some non-biased opinions from several journalists can help us feel a bit more comfortable with our order.

What is the point of all the concern?

So the press says the car is "great"? If one guy says it slides too much and is under powered, is anyone really going to cancel their reservation?

Any type of press drive is purely promo for the manufacturer. We've already had two of these type of events, last summer and in November with the 12 contest winners.

For a car that is virtually sold out, the goal for BMW is to use the event to reinforce the brand, not to make some fellow on an internet board comfortable about his deposit at the local dealer.

The drives occur next month (April).

The Drives will commence before actual customers are delivered their cars.

All of this was under the watchful eye of BMW. I just want the car rags to take the car out and really put a beating on 'em. Would I cancel my order if the car sucked? You betcha. Will it suck? Of course not. But wouldn't you like to read every journalist's review of a car you're about to purchase? I know I would, bad review or not.

Really? Based on what we know/read so far, there's no way I'm going to let any single (or even a handful) of journalist influence me that much. I'm also using my prior experiences with the 1-series. I already know the pros and cons.

Of course. I love to read auto reviews. But if you've already drawn enough conclusions from the available objective information to actually place a deposit, it just seems odd to me that a subject review could influence someone that much. Of course if you, yourself, actually drove one and changed your mind, that is different. However I bet if most of us got to drive one, it would only make us crave it that much more

Agreed, what is needed is a fully independent review, by international press. Lost trust in the top American magazines frankly, their sponsorship dollars tie/bias their views. They'll never trash any car, even if it deserves to be criticized. Edmunds Inside Line is trying to be more 'realistic', but at the end of the day the amount of fleet they get from manufacturers is also directly proportional to their expressed views...
