BMW now patching run flats

I was at the dealer today to have some nitrogen added to my front tire. Thanks TPMS. I thought it might have been have been a nail and asked if they had the tire in stock. The SA told me that BMW is now patching run flats as long as the hole is not too close to the sidewall. As long as the hole is near the center of the tire, they can now fix it. Good news for a nail in the expensive run flats.

Good to know cause dropping $330 on a tire is no joke.

My front passenger side run flat has been patched 4-5X

I have had to repeatedly patch my front passenger side tire (run flat) because of my garage. The tire still works well (knock wood) after a few years. Our recycling bin is in the front right corner of the garage and my older boy keeps throwing bottles into the recycling bin but he often misses. As a result, there is usually a pile of glass up there. I try to make him clean it up but he is often drunk (that's usually why he misses) and, now that he's 17, he is a good deal stronger than me. I have asked him to cover the glass with sheets of plywood if he doesn't sweep it up but, again, he cannot be reasoned with. After the most recent patch, Discount Tire told me that they cannot patch it any more. So I've started backing into the garage. So far, so good with the driver's side rear. However, I clipped my driver's side mirror last week on the edge of the garage and so now there is another repair bill upcoming. Nobody said German cars were cheap. LOL!

Good to hear OP, but I will still avoid run-flats like the plague. IMO that's the only really weak point of BMW's against every other competitor.

It seems to me that you have more problems than just a run-flat tire being patched or not...

It works for airplanes, which operate in very cold temps and water vapor freezing causes imbalances when landing. It's got a few benefits for cars on paper, but very few real world benefits, if any. I certainly wouldn't pay for it.

You should shove a broken beer bottle down his throat when he is sleeping. Probably do you and the rest of society a favor.

personally i have no issue with patching a run flat... I do know that any puncture repair will negate any speed rating the tire has, or at least looses its highest.. but i would like to see documentation that says BMW says so.....

The only reason i say this....is BMW doesnt warranty any tire mounted on any of there cars... They may GODWILL a replacement but they wont warranty it. There is a big difference. ( that is for those of us that have in fact have tires replaced at the dealer at no charge to us)

BMW runs away from the words WARRANTY and TIRE in the same sentence.

regards,

Considering that air is composed of 70-80% nitrogen, paying to air up a tire with nitrogen is quite a scam lol

I was at a dealer to day inquiring about new wheels and asked if they would plug RFT.... I got a big "NO" for an answer. So don't count on every dealer to be willing to fix a puncture on your RFT.
