135I w/ M Snow? Rim+tire or just tire?

Quick question,
Assuming limited space, at the moment limited funding due to life costs, and questionable weather, as we have here in NJ where it snowed like mad no more than a week ago and today it's going to be 65F, what are ones options.
Is it best to have a spare set of rims with snow tires or just simply have a set of snow tires and have them installed as the season turns?
I've never had a car with run flats and I'm not 100% sure as to the viability of changing just the tires every year?
Will this cause damage to the rim or the tire?
It shouldn't but as I said not 100%

Get a spare set of rims with dedicated winter rubber, usually a 1" decrease in rim diameter and same size front and rear (square set-up). Although you can mount/unmount winters you have to consider that you'll be paying for 8 mountings/unmountings per year plus balancing. Plus if you get caught by another surprise storm it's easier/safer to mount your winter wheels/tires at home than to drive somewhere to have winter tires mounted. If you plan on doing any driving in the snow, forget A/S tires altogether.

Great tires, I loved them when I had them on my 1.8T Jetta.
People here don't seem to like them on this car?

And I don't race, I don't intend to race, it is my daily driver so I'm not sure if super high performance is for me.

A lot of people like going with dedicated winter wheel and tire setups so that they don't have to pay for mounting and balancing twice a year. Additionally there is less of a chance that someone will scuff up your wheels in the process!

An 18" square setup for winter with a nice 225 winter tire should help you get through those cold months easily.

Either get the sensors or live with the warning light all winter, the sensors are only about $200 for a set of four.

Get a set for the new rims if you get new rims. Makes it very easy to swap them out.
