any actually GOTTEN the tii stickers from them? I followed up and called them twice and they took an email address and phone number to get back to me each time and never did. I get the feeling this is something they really don't want to be doing and hope I just go away - so I don't want to be pushy.
Just wondering if anyone had further experience with them. This would be Lams Motorworks in Georgia....? So, if this doesn't pan out what does anyone think of this idea... (keep in mind I'm really liking the connection between our 1ers and the original 2002's especialy the tii. The 2002 is even featured in the E82 brochure) So... I have found a 2002tii metal badge. I would cut off the 'tii' and then remove the 'i' from my 135i and replace it with the 'tii'. Then I would have a135tii. Good - bad - or indifferent?OR |

Well, technically our cars should be a "130tii" or possibly "130ttii".

It's through a 2002 restoration site. They have the badges for anywhere from $29 to $69. They are metal and have the 2 mounting pins on them (like a roundel) so they would need to be cut ground and taped on to just use the 'tii portion'. But I'm not yet convinced it's what I want to do. I just wish the Lam's folks would RSVP Please...

Just go full ricer and put a "Type R" badge on your car...
Seriously, though, I don't understand the need for people to re-badge their cars with something other than the factory-designated model name. Your car is a 135i. There's nothing wrong with that. Accept it. It is not, and never will be, a 135tii. Not ever, ever, ever (just look at the title if you don't believe me). There isn't even such a thing, save for a single concept vehicle. Your money, your car - just my $0.02. |

Given the comparisons between the 1 series and the 2002's made by the press, owners and BMW themselves - it seemed sort of logical as I differentiated my car to also committ it more solidly to it's heritage - and the 'tii' part seemed most relevant given its turbo status. Just my thoughts..... |

Yes. Nostalgia, history, heritage, lineage, bloodlines!
And, on top of that the history of the 'T' and the 'i', although shrouded in much mystery and controversy seems to have been accepted as (taken from another site): "i" means injected. It is a little silly today when everything is, but mattered in the early 70's when most cars were carbureted. "T" or "t" means Touring which in Urp = station wagon. Yes our little hatchbacks are not station wagons but have the rear hatch as did the 2002 Tourings (which by the way were denoted as "Touring" see picture in previous post, not "ti") "ti" means "twin induction". In the late 60's/early 70's BMW upped the performance with dual carbs, each serving two cylinders. It was possible to get a "Touring ti" (perhaps they all were) however, you could get "ti" on coupes and even 4 door 2000 sedans (never formally imported) "tii" is simply the combination of the two designations so "twin inducted, injected" 2002tii were made from about 69 or so through 74. And yes it was Kugelfischer (sp) mechanical injection. The injection pump came off a tractor! (By the way, if you ever buy one of these wonderful wonderful cars, make sure that pump is in good shape. Rebuilding or replacing it can cost a fortune) And, if that is indeed fact and true, there is nothing about 'Tii' that really violates the heart and soul of our cars or implies radical departure from what a 135i really is and seems to be a fine moniker for our 135i's owned by nostalgic patrons of the BMW histories.

I thought the 318Ti stood for Touring International.
Love the Ti! |
