Sound "quality" of HD is a bit better than analog, IF and when a particular station is using the capacity to provide a better signal. As posted above, that's not always the case.
HD radio overall performance is lack luster.
It fades in and out like the FM days of yesteryear.

I don't particularly care for it at this stage.

I paid $350 for it on my 2009. I'm a loser...lol

I listen to my iPod 90% of the time anyway. Oh well, the HD Radio is pretty good when it gets a good signal.

I really like the HD radio. We only have one AM station broadcasting with HD, but the sound is incredible. You can actually hear Rush Limbaugh's stomach rumbling. You can turn off the HD feature then back on and really tell the difference.

I also like the additional FM stations available, with many in my area broadcasting without ads. One country music station plays jazz on their HD2 channel.

I am not sure if I would pay extra for HD, but I am happy to have it.

How do you turn it off? I keep getting repeating, loss of signal, volume changes. It blows. Little help for a noob?

Well, I have HD and Sat in my 2011. Honestly, HD sounds the same as FM. As for Sat, my favorite station is a local HD/FM so what do I care. I do have an 8 gig thumb drive and it works really nice plugged into the USB port.

Sometimes, the sound of the engine and the wind beats everything.

After playing with my HD channels for a week I'm not too excited about it, the sound quality is worse than FM and the content isn't better. I would rather have free Sat Radio than the HD.

thought HD radio was standard...

it came in my 2010. And I didn't select any option that included it.

wtf?

all those problems are either

a) what happens to radio waves...der.

or b) a result of radio stations not syncing their analog and digital broadcasts

aka not bmw, or any other car makers fault.
