Almost ready to install. Just waiting on the Bimmerworld guide pins for the rear. Just for fun I cleaned up the anti-rattle clips that came with the calipers from the junkyard and had them electroless nickel plated to ASTM B733 Type I, SC3, Class 3 (went with a batch of other stuff at work). There's some texture where rust was removed (Evapo-rust, FTW), but they don't look too shabby for used clips (I also have brand new ones). I haven't powder coated the rears yet as I haven't sourced rear caliper carriers and I'm unwilling to have my car out of action while I go through the prep and paint process. When I finally get some I'll slap the original rear 40mm calipers back on temporarily and do the rear calipers and carriers together.
I also need to find a block of time to install it all. Last edited by Suprgnat; 11-06-2015 at 01:36 PM.. |

Today I found out that my 330I/Z4 57/24/330 brakes won't clear the barrels of my 17" Style 207M wheels. SMH
On sale soon. |

OMG. Sorry to hear that, second time around - what a pain in the ass. I would've bought the whole package from you but I ended up getting grey BMW performance fronts as there was a good deal from a local guy....maybe just go with the factory setup to ensure it clears? I'm sure there's a used set somewhere, lots listed on car-part.com (for the front calipers). You could do a rebuild and have "as new" BMW perf BBK....

Maybe the sale of this set-up will go towards funding some rebuildable Performance calipers. We'll see. |

Decided to go the "130i" route. Stock front calipers with the 130i/330i carriers and rotors. Actually did a test fit first... Also rechecked my brake force/bias calculations and realized I forgot to factor in that the 128i has a 23.81 mm (15/16") front master cylinder versus the 135i 25.4 mm (1") front master cylinder. That means the stock 128i bias is 62.72/37.28, the 130i mod with the 42 mm rear calipers will yield a 63.19/36.81 bias with a braking force increase of 11.5% front and 10.25% rear. Like someone said, if you can get to the threshold 0.1 seconds faster, at 70 MPH that's 10.27 feet sooner. Whatever, I'm just doing this for fun anyway. Now to get the carriers stripped and re-plated.

Reason why I'm asking, is that in STX you're allowed to these upgrades as long as the above is valid. And if we're shaving 1 pound of unsprung mass, I'm all ears on what needs to be done. |

Since I'm now sticking with the stock caliper and the larger aluminum-hatted rotor, mass actually goes up by 0.66 pounds per front corner. Had I'd been able to shoehorn the Z4/330i aluminum calipers in to my stock wheels, mass would have gone down by a little over 0.4 pounds per front corner in addition to more front bias (65.67/34.33) which is virtually identical to the BMWP brakes (with the 42 mm rear calipers). (I have some Z4/330i calipers I'm not using, BTW) Maybe the PFC 330 mm floating rotors would save some weight. Got a quote from Bimmerworld for only $863.98 for the pair (never hurts to ask...) http://www.pfc.parts/product/328-073-8788/ Last edited by Suprgnat; 10-14-2015 at 10:43 AM.. One other thought. If you stuck with the stock size rotor, but switched to the Z4/330i aluminum caliper, you'd knock 1.85 pounds of unsprung mass off of each corner and still increase front brake torque 11.4% (if that's desirable to you) because of the larger 57 mm piston.-

The 330i aluminum caliper use the same pads or slightly difference because of the piston size? Stupid question, but I'm assuming it's a new pad size? Just thinking on how it would pair with the rotor. |

Hey, beauty is in the eye of the beholder; you like the 207's, and that's your choice, but I'd dump them on ebay and pick up some 18 Leggaras... Here's a shot of the M Roadster with Superleggeras...

The Z4/330i calipers won't clear the barrels of 207Ms with the 330 mm rotors. I didn't try it with the stock 300 mm set up, but suspect they'd fit just fine. PM sent.
